Mr Robbie savage upsetting Boro fans

So why didn't you sell out 22k every game?

I don't get the relevance of your blathering? Just because you can't fill your shit heap of a ground, doesn't mean we are going to get 20k next season and I'm yet to see you make a pertinent point to suggest otherwise. Hence you are talking rubbish, and you look like a tit.

05/06 you averaged 28k and that was when you were still in the Premier League.

Wasn't there a quote in Roy Keane's book where he said that there was only something like 16k there at his first game in charge.

05/06 was the 15 point season we averaged 33,904. Still more than tiny Middlesbrough who couldn't even sell out when you played at Hartlepools ground.

I don't think our home following is much to write home about. Good numbers at times but some right moaning fuckers and listening to them you'd think they're only there to vent there spleen. Lost count the amount of times we've told a few to fuck off home because it seemed their express purpose of being there was to get on the players' backs, and when we're right in the shite that shouldn't be welcome.

Away following much better over years, and that's where we can say we have a better following than most. Took some very good numbers over the years when not much to play for at places such as Cambridge.
I was just clarifying the 16k from the book.

Numbers are not indicative as you say. I think our current numbers are tempered by taking lower allocations and in comparison to pre-prem regulations our numbers are nothing like they were.

Point in question. 2100-2200 will be at Watford - compare that to demand and Man City, Liverpool, Wimbleddon, etc.

I can't believe I keep having to explain this.

You asked me to tell you when you've ever averaged crowds of 20k and I gave you an example.

I'm sure you'll start off with 30k+ next season if you are in the Championship, but if you struggle, I believe your crowds will drop to about 20k.

I don't mean specifically 20k a week, but around that mark.

Please don't tell me you seriously believe you'll still average 30k+ if you're struggling in the Championship.

I was actually there at that game. Can't remember who they played but Hartlepool played Cardiff on the afternoon. Think we were at Huddersfield same day. We went to watch Hartlepool and thought fuck it we'll hang around for the evening match. Probably about 4,000 there from Middlesbrough?

Seriously ffs this thread is embarrassing, Boro will never get as big crowds as us or the mags on average. Much like we'll never get as big crowds as Arsenal or Man Utd.

For the most part they are though aren't they? I mean, why bother comparing your attendances with ours? You're embarrassing yourself.

Did I say that for the most part your attendances aren't better than ours?

I just responded to his claim that you've always averaged higher attendances than us, which isn't true.

You obviously didn't see my earlier post did you.

96/97 we averaged 29.848, you averaged 17.482

98/99 we averaged 34.386, you averaged 33.492

04/05 we averaged 30.398, you averaged 27,120

05/06 we averaged 32.012, you averaged 28.821

Get a fuckin life man. I could perhaps understand where you're coming from but you're defending yourself on a Sunderland forum.

It's pathetic. We're not going to agree with you, you're completely wasting your time on here.

Can't be arsed mate, these threads pop up all the time and are pointless. It's totally irrelevant, as are Boro ;)

Another smoggy embarrassing himself again...im sure he'll come out with the old.....I was winding you lot up remark...

That might be true, but because there are a lot more people interested in football these days it stands to reason that places with bigger populations will get much bigger crowds in.

Back in the '80s and early '90s before football became a fashion, there wasn't that much difference in the followings both clubs had.

The gap was probably bigger in away followings than at home.

I'm from a place half way between Sunderland and Middlesbrough and when I went to school it was more or less 100% SAFC.

The truth is that there's not that much difference between the clubs except our club can bring in more fans when the club is doing well.

I can't imagine a place that is evenly split SAFC/Newcastle with a couple of Boro because over our way which like I say is half way between Sunderland and Middlesbrough it was all SAFC. At a guess I'd say you're more South West Durham - Spenny/Ferryhill somewhere like that?

Spenny yes, bang on.
