Mr Robbie savage upsetting Boro fans

I have absolutely nothing against Boro.

But the simple truth is, at school for every 100 kids, 49 were Sunderland, 49 were Newcastle and 2 were Boro.

I literally do not care about Boro in the slightest, probably as a consequence or rather lack of consequence of those numbers above.

Every now and again they do get their shit together but I'm not actually interested.

That might be true, but because there are a lot more people interested in football these days it stands to reason that places with bigger populations will get much bigger crowds in.

Back in the '80s and early '90s before football became a fashion, there wasn't that much difference in the followings both clubs had.

The gap was probably bigger in away followings than at home.

I'm from a place half way between Sunderland and Middlesbrough and when I went to school it was more or less 100% SAFC.

The truth is that there's not that much difference between the clubs except our club can bring in more fans when the club is doing well.

I can't imagine a place that is evenly split SAFC/Newcastle with a couple of Boro because over our way which like I say is half way between Sunderland and Middlesbrough it was all SAFC. At a guess I'd say you're more South West Durham - Spenny/Ferryhill somewhere like that?

We'll probably be averaging similar attendances to you next season if you go down.

We've already sold 25k season tickets, so we'll average 30k+ next season whichever league we're in.
If you sold 25k season tickets that will mean 50k heads in the ground. There ya gan, HOTBED.

Yes but in fairness your attendances have always been bigger than ours ;)

96/97 we averaged 29.848, you averaged 17.482

98/99 we averaged 34.386, you averaged 33.492

04/05 we averaged 30.398, you averaged 27,120

05/06 we averaged 32.012, you averaged 28.821

Ok then, nearly always.;)

;)

You still haven't answered my question? When did we last average 20k?

I know you have averaged below it every year for over half a decade now.

And the original point that I was making, was that if you down and struggle I can see your crowds dropping right down to a 20k average.

35,104 his first home game in charge. Tremendous travelling support and wins at Derby and Leeds in his first two games.

I don't think our home following is much to write home about. Good numbers at times but some right moaning fuckers and listening to them you'd think they're only there to vent there spleen. Lost count the amount of times we've told a few to fuck off home because it seemed their express purpose of being there was to get on the players' backs, and when we're right in the shite that shouldn't be welcome.

Away following much better over years, and that's where we can say we have a better following than most. Took some very good numbers over the years when not much to play for at places such as Cambridge.

05/06 you averaged 28k and that was when you were still in the Premier League.

Wasn't there a quote in Roy Keane's book where he said that there was only something like 16k there at his first game in charge.

;)

Family night must be off tonight
