Mowbray press conference

What do you think the reaction would be if the Man Utd owners said at the start of the season "By the way we're not going to try and get Champions League this year, we want to build slowly and maybe have a go in 2-3 years time"

And before you ask, no I don't want us to spunk millions on overpaid shite.

And yes I'm more than happy with our recruitment of young up and coming players.
That's what arsenal did. Gone quite well for them since. A lot of mufc problems are due to appeasing fans with here and now signings.

Jesus man, this place is a joke at times. The board could not have been any f***ing clearer on how they will approach things. The aim is to grow the club steadily, buying young talent and developing them.

They won't be spunking millions to try and force a promotion, neither will they detract from their model.

A few fannies on a message board throwing their toys out the pram won't change that.

Fanny Claxon!!!

He was clearly joking, don’t let that stop you post the fanny craic for likes though.

Just seen he has said we are trying to grow the sqaud and will hopefully be signing some young exciting players in a few weeks. I get that we need to grow but im hoping we bring one or two in that can slot straight into the side and make us stronger. We have a real opportunity to make a good push for the playoffs.
He didn’t say they wouldn’t slot straight into the side mind, I think that’s you assuming cos they’re young, they won’t.

And Arsenal fans were going apeshit, they even wanted Wengar sacked ffs.

I wasn't on about appeasing fans by spending money.
It sends out the wrong message that we're not really going for promotion when we have an opportunity to.

6 pts separate 12 clubs from 3rd down over (top 2 are gone)

Everyone of those 12 clubs should be having a right good go at finishing in the play offs and ultimately achieving promotion.🤷‍♂️

It would be different.
They'd be going apeshit.

But not relevant to us as we have a very different target this season. Had we been in and around the play offs for a good few years then fallen short and the plan was to build then there might be some similarities but right now there's absolutely nothing similar to the comparison.

Go as apeshit as you like.

I just think its going to be a missed opportunity id we dont go for it. I think the championship this season is the most open as i can remember. Next season we’ll probably have Sheff Wed, Ipswich coming up along with potentially 3 out of the current bottom 7 of the premier league coming down, will be alot harder imo.
2nd place is 11 points clear. I’m not seeing it as that open mesel.

I'm not going apeshit.
I'm happy how the season has gone up to now.

We are the biggest club in this league by a mile...we should be sounding more positive off it. Dampening expectations...can anybody answer, why are we doing that??
We have more history and fans than most, but that doesn't mean anything here and now. We were stuck in L1 for years and even when promoted we relied on the play offs finishing 5th. We have gone from a playoff l1 team to a championship mid table team in 6months and that's and incredible improvement from where we've been. Dampening expectations makes sense because of that as people get carried away and expect too much too soon

Absolutely right mate. Thing is with Man Utd, they can spend big money on players, then offload them for huge losses when they’re shite. Then they just buy more players…. and it goes on.
Any team outside the top 6 try this model, and they’re fucked, with Everton being a good example atm.

We’re not going to start paying wages to upset the lads out who got us out of league 1. Is the worst thing from today.

We hope that something is pretty close - there are deals we're negotiating to try and get over the line. We won't break the structures in place to bring someone in on much more than players who have worked really hard to get this club out of League One . Tony Mowbray
