Moving to the US?

Anyone ever tried it? How difficult is it to do these days?
Always wanted to move across and i'm in the midst of thinking fuck it, and doing it, but I understand it's fairly difficult to do so. Has anyone ever done it on here?

Mam and dad used to live in southern California, been many times and always had an affinity with it.

Might still be a pie in the sky idea but it's one of those leap of faith type moves that i'm close to

Have a job lined up that'll bring you over so you get a work visa and fast tracked through the green card process. Otherwise it's a bit difficult.

Should have asked, for work or retirement?

Very difficult to do without a job offer in hand. I went on an intracompany transfer L1 visa as a specialised employee, and even that was pretty hard. You'd most likely need an H1B visa and a job offer. I wrote a post on this ten years ago which I can't be arsed to repeat but it's here:

Moving To The USA

I was there for four years and I miss it every day. It's a different place now mind, post Trump and post COVID.

Hope this helps!

Biden is letting any fucker in now, terrorists, sex traffickers, MS-13, the list goes on.

Easiest way in is thru Mexico, Biden has purposefully left huge chunks of unfinished border wall to make it easy.

Don’t worry about Kamala - she’s in charge of the border but is too busy giggling into microphones or giving interviews to CNN to be arsed on.

Good luck marra.

very hard. i've been with my firm a while so i'm eligible for a L1/a visa, which is an intracompany transferee. however, the pandemic means pretty much all non-immigrant visa's are halted. gutting really because the firm were going to do it just before the pandemic.

i've spent 5 3 month stints there going back and forth and i'd move there tomorrow if i could

This.
Pretty much impossible otherwise unless you have close family there to sponsor you.
The other way is to buy a business. Eg 7/11 Store.
You then have to employ a certain number of US residents (i think its abt 20 not sure tho) and have your books auditted every year to see that tbe business is viable.
