Moving back Norf

Most of Guildford north of the A3 is canny shit for a supposedly well to do Surrey town

It is......and large parts of it like Onslow which is supposed to be a village but there's nee pond or Fookin Ducks, are what we'd call Coonsel Hooses up there, but they go for Fookin £7-800k down here.....

I lived in Maidstone from 2007 till 2013, but worked on a daily basis up town. Sold up and moved back home to set business up and be closer to family. Majority of current clients are now those from that there London

Escort?

Last one is a biggie. I’ve just agreed to a job on a salary I’d have got 15 years ago in London but my choice is limited.

I, personally, feel like I fit in better down there. I feel like I miss out on a lot of stuff I didn’t before - eg if your favourite band plays a gig, they’ll play in London. I miss being in the centre of things, we are out on a limb here. Transport here is appalling.

I’d go back in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for family and the fact that house prices have gone bananas since we left.

The transport/entertainment aspect. I think you need to live/work down there a bit to see how behind we are on loads of things.
Its another world but folk who’ve never left up here know no different.

One you've lived away for a while you realise how badly the Norf has been Fooked over by the Tories and Labour did fook all to reverse the trend when they had the chance...........

I still get surprised at how long it takes to get to the likes of Birmingham or Manchester from here.

I've lived down there mate and, whilst I take those points, the frustration of the last metro leaving Newcastle at 1115 doesn't outweigh the many pros of the NE for me. With our equivalent roles down South there no way we'd be able to afford as nice a place on 3.25 times our joint salary.

I appreciate that if you're really into gigs etc like @Muppet then it tips things London's way. But then you sacrifice other forms of entertainment (SAFC, avoiding the obvious joke) living in London.

Moved back to the NE from Cornwall. Made the decision based on nostalgia mainly.

Error

Fortunately I can sell up and move anytime as the house is paid off. Keep putting it off until tomorrow.
Christ. London I can understand. But Cornwall? I can. I can understand people who move back because they can't stand being away from family

That's the point though. Equivalent roles are unavailable otherwise the housing costs would not be vastly different

We sold up and moved back last year after 10 years down there. No regrets though I do have to spend two nights a week down there with work so don't feel like I can miss the place.

You still get people moving down there because they can earn extra £ for a standard Finance role etc though.

My equivalent role can definitely be had in London but I couldn't afford the type of place ive got up here if I moved.

Is Northampton any where near yay Swinny ? Lovely countryside round there and Bedfordshire . Actually now that I think about it I've seen a lot of the south of England and it's all nice . The towns are shite but they are everywhere for me . I'm a cuntry mouse now .

Not far and as you say Northampton has some wonderful unspoilt Countryside.
On the outskirts of the Cotswolds here and village life is great.
Couldn’t live in a City or Town as the less people the better.
Not a football place though but happy to travel to Mecca every other Saturday.

Okay if you are in a decent paid job , fantastic if your lass is in one too. Its got everything you need, its just the lack of jobs, low paid jobs and the public transport ( in some areas ) that is the only problem. There are two North Easts though, living in an urban area with decent pubs, schools, restaurants , transport etc is totally different to living in a village like Horden , Craghead or Trimdon.
@davoak will not like this

I can get to London on the train in an hour.
f***ing hate the place and give me the Countryside and place I live any day.
No shop in the village, poor lighting and a pub that opens only when the landlord feels like it.
Neighbours are horses that wind the dog up. Sleep is broken by all sorts of wildlife and you can sit in the garden and not see one other human being.
Paradise. Me the dog and the tame wild birds.

Move west then, they talk posh in Devon, the air is clear and the climate is better than London.
The issues mentioned about opportunities for kids are mirrored down here to the NE. There’s a saying that anyone down here with any get up and go has got up and left. It’s not as bad as previous generations ( just like the NE) but opportunities as less no matter how you fluff it up.
It’s quality of life for me, we left London 18 yrs ago and toyed with moving up. Wife’s a Londoner but didn’t feel tied. Instead of moving up we moved down, daughters now in Bristol and I doubt she will be back and she only went last weekend :)
