Most unexpectedly good tourist destination you’ve been to?

Girona is a city people often overlook in the rush to travel further up to the busier Barcelona. It has lots of character, an old town, river and nearby countryside and is a good spot to easily get to know either as a city break or a gateway to catalonia.
We often have a family holiday in a place called Calella de Palafrugell, lovely fishing village an hour and a half from Barcelona (or 50 minutes from Girona)

Lovely place for a week and has neighbouring towns closeby called Llafranc & Begur.

Cuba.

Properly different place to go with no chance of seeing a VW garage or a Lidl.
It's like going back to the 60s and makes you feel like you've spent a lot more you have.

How many hotels have a cigar bar, 24 hour food and drink and waiter table service all served in glasses, not little plastic cups.
Had a great time both times I've been and it was cheaper that Greece or the Canaries.

Grand canyon exceed all expectations, didn't realise how big it was, been to southside and northside on different trips and its beyond stunning, photos cant do it justice. Do yersel a favour once can travel again to USA
This, a light aircraft flight through the canyon was amazing to give a sense of scale

Funny you should mention that. We flew to Girona, stayed there two days, walked east into the hills, stayed in old villages for two days, and then walked to Calella de Palafrugell and stayed there three days. We stayed in the 1927 hotel that reminded me of an Agatha Christie location that has been recently done up. Got the bus back to Girona and flew home.

If we had done it as a guided walking holiday it would have been expensive, but we did it ourselves and it was a great week.

Beijing. Imagined it was going to be a glass, steel and concrete jungle covered in smog. There are some beautiful areas, and some of the Hutongs (lanes) are ancient with all kinds of weird and wonderful things going on. Same with Chicago, magnificent architecture and great people.

Was it the now, Hotel Alga?

Was it the now, Hotel Alga?

No, it was the Mediterani, very relaxing spot but the whole place is great as you’ll be aware of.
