Mortimer & Whitehouse Gone Fishing

it was late in the season as bobs fish had plenty of colour along its flanks , so it was getting ready to breed, it wasnt a fresh run fish

and I think september is probably the best month on the North or South Tyne, all my best fish have come in september up at Featherstone or Lambley

you used to get the biggest numbers of fish running the river in july august and it september/October they would be in place and getting ready to spawn

first one i've seen in ages. Was that Whitehouses's mam singing? An amazing gift if so. Gazza a difficult watch as well - almost too awkward for whitehouse. This show is almost an illustration of how to treat friends in a digital age where a 'like' suffices as a human connection.

I got it for Xmas as well and its already safely in the suitcase for our week in the sun in January .

So far this and James Martin has been the only telly I have watched over the Xmas period .
That part of the Eden they fished / ate looks wonderful . Anyone know the exact location and is it open to the public ?

That pool on the Eden looked superb, my thought was either very expensive or private, I would like to know for sure.
 
Just been reading up on the xmas special, alot of local anglers got involved in the location and best days too fish to catch the Salmon aswell as the best weather. So alot of prep made it a good days fishing.

Yes, £500 a day on the Test is about right, it's madness to pay that for stocked fish.

I didn't realise that 😳 I wonder if Tesco do day-tickets on the Tweed 😂 Have you been to Stockbridge?There's a bit of channelled River in the High Street always got some nice fish finning away in it 👍
 
some prices are mental on the tyne with syndicate beats

but there are still public day ticket stretches some of which offer some of the best fishing available

Warden outside of hexham is probbaly the best as it includes where the north and south Tyne split and you get a lot of fish there...even at peak of the season 70-80 for the day (of course its booked up miles in advance ofor september/october)

buts its not outrageous money given the possibility of fish caught

lambley estates further up the south tyne is similarly priced but that far up you are weather dependant for the water levels and that directly influences the chance of fish in that part of the river, great pool at the road bridge and under the viaduct though and some easy wading
 
I fished lambley a fair bit but most of mine was when I was in haltwhistle and district club ( my gran lived there so 'residents' get a permit,so I had a haltwhistle postcode! ) its about a 4 year waiting list for non residents


I think they have a couple of day tickets per day right through the season these days first come first served, no booking as far as I know..when I was a member it was members only beginning september so all the best beats were for the members

some amazing fishing though if you can get on, melkridge beats were always busy and I didnt drive then so I always fished around featherstone castle as it was walking distance from my grans house

biggest sea trout was below the caravan club site there biggest salmon from the the viaduct pool


theres good value to be had on tributaries of the tweed as well..the Till is still reasonably priced, you get a decent run of fish, they also have Grayling which is a bonus for a fly fisher
