Can anyone recommend a decent one in the Sunderland/Durham area?
I used a lad off here in the past, and would have done again as he's a top fella, but he doesn't do it anymore.Another vote for L&C. Dead easy, no fees.

Sorry for being a div but what do you need them for? I just search online save sort out myself.
If there a benefit to this I'm missing out on?
I always assumed it would cost money, if people weren't saying it was real I'd think this was a phishing scamYes. They sort the mortgage deal out, recommend the best one and why, sort your insurances out etc and all for free. I've no idea why people wouldn't do it.
I always look myself, find the best deal, then contact L&C, they always find a better one.Sorry for being a div but what do you need them for? I just search online save sort out myself.

The last couple I've see have been shite.
If you have a steady job & relatively small mortgage, there's little point in getting one.
Many/most charge no fee, but they get commission from the mortgage company - so costs you nowtSorry for being a div but what do you need them for? I just search online save sort out myself.

It’s free and they do everything for you.
That’s the point.
If you do your research before you go to them then you’ll know of there are better deals out there.I’m always a bit suspicious about the mortgage brokers who are free at the point of use.
There is a potential conflict of interest if the best deal for you isn’t the best deal for them in terms of commission received. I nearly got scammed by First Mortgage in Leith. The mortgage they tried to get me to go with wasn’t the cheapest for me, (I think about 0.25% difference) but paid them more than the others.
In the end, I went with a mortgage broker who was open book on all the deals he could get, charged a fee (£300 iirc) but we ended up with a deal another 0.25% lower than the best one First Mortgage could have offered.
As others have said, if you are both employed, going for a standard mortgage with a good deposit, you most likely won’t need a broker. Having said that, shopping around can pay dividends.
They often have access to exclusive deals, but that’s not to say they won’t be biased towards whichever lender is paying them the most commission. In terms of insurance I’ve often found it’s cheaper to just sort that online yourself as well. Those are the reasons people may chose not to use one.Yes.
