Nowt against this lad, I hope he comes here and has a great career, but I think we need to be shopping in our own league, focusing on players that have done well at this level, not kids from Premier league academies
We also have a salary cap to adhere to and players aged 21 and under don’t count towards it. I’d much rather we signed 19/20/21 year old who have been released by established PL clubs as backup/squad players than another Flanagan or Connor McLaughlin.

We need a mixture, signing players released from premier league clubs do well in league 1

Isn’t that what we have been doing?

A lot of our signings over the last couple of seasons were players with experience of playing in (and getting promoted from) this division.

I have seen a few suggesting he is a signing for the U23 squad. He will be fighting for a first team place
Our u23 squad should be fighting for a first team place.

It’s all opinions but I couldn’t disagree more. What you’ve described is the strategy that’s got us stuck here. Buy league one players and you stay in league one. A lot of them, like grigg, have stepped up before and failed. They don’t want to go up really because they know they’ll be relaxed. Not saying they’ll actively try to fail but they won’t have the hunger or determination they once had. Other teams don’t want to sign that sort of player unless they’re out of contract so it’s the equivalent of throwing money down a pit just to stand still.

the best players in this league have mostly been players who’ve not quite got first team chances at premier league clubs (toney, brannagan etc). You sign them develop them and hopefully one or two really kick on and get us up or make us millions.

That’s fair like although I think the squad is already saturated with league one experience
