More staff sacked today

No-one in their right mind ever tells anyone their job is safe, especially when there's a very obvious review of the whole business going on. All you do then is make yourself a hostage for fortune. To be honest, it would worry me more that they'd made promises in the first place than that they had to break them later.
To be fair,he said senior managers. To me that means managers manager. So if someone did say something like that,we don't know (and I would doubt) it was a member of the board and they really shouldn't have. I guess people who've lived in that kind of bubble for a long period of time may just slip comments out to make people feel better without thinking of the consequences.

Not that I know, just speculating. Hopefully nobody made "assurances".

It's sad and I hope the people out of work find new employment asap.

This mess belongs to Short and Co.....not the new owners. They're just making the hard decisions which circumstances are dictating.

Of course some on here who don't like the new owners and have made their minds up will use other people's misfortune to score points. Utterly disgraceful.

Were they asked? Was it not right that the people being made redundant were told first? Were they informed of the start of the redundancy process today or is this the end? They havent just been sacked, there are laws in place and they will have had to go through the correct redundancy procedure including statutory redundancy payments.

Still not great but lets not pretend that people walked into work today, were told to go home and will not have any pay due after today. Thankfully the one thing we do have plenty of in Sunderland is a need for the type of skills that would be used in places like a ticket office, we are one of the biggest customer service hubs in the country.
They haven't been shy about sharing the far end of a fart previously.

Not really like. As many people have said on the thread,it's not comparable to the circumstances of the past year or two.

Why ? Still people without jobs and families without an income. Still some rich bloke coming in and promising the earth and pulling the carpet away from local people. Surely the club can afford however much it is to keep the staff in a job. And if they can't maybe the chairman could spend some of the 40m he was bragging about proving he had to the FA to keep them in work if he is serious about being a community club. Then again why don't we just get volunteers to do their jobs
