And does monochrome mean black and white or one colour?

Go back to painting and drawing and it means one colour innit..... you'd have the white canvas and black pencil or paint . So the base colour isn't counted

Trust you to make it as complicated as possible though

You can pick up a good scanner for bugger all nowadays. I use an Epson 550

Really like the mountain shot above. If you don't mind a suggestion... (you're getting one!)... how about cropping it a bit from the right? It would really draw in the mountain and that lush cloud and rain(?) around the peak.
