From Gary Bennett's reaction the referee was right to send him off but I just wonder if Atwell would have the bottle to do the same to Gerrard, Scholes or Lampard???

Well not Scoles for sure - "everyone knows he can't tackle" and waves play on with a smile:roll:

We dont need him. We play just as well if not better without him as we showed tonight and last season.

The team might stop being so negative now, Haway the lads.

I've seen Gerrard and Scholes get booked or sent off plenty of times. If anything Scholes almost has as bad a rep as Catts as a bad tackler.

He made a good run with the ball, it got slightly ahead of him and he tried to redeem himself with the challenge. Wasn't nasty or owt, just a bit over zealous, still a probable red mind. Some of the comments on here are a bit pathetic tbh. Why do supporters have to have a hate figure when theres nowt really to hate?

Have you seen the challenge ??? :)

f***ing red card - even 10 years ago

That's utter tripe that.

Since mon come in, check out results without him. We took a severe nose dive. We have also looked weaker this season without him playing.

but he is rarely picked up on it, if he is then the ref is accused of being biased against him etc.

Cattermole imo is over zealous in his attempts to do something, usually causing him to fuck up and get a stupid booking but i dont think ive ever seen him put in a malicious tackle where the intent is to injure, Carragher and Gerrard on the other hand do nothing but blast in feet first again and again but rarely get booked never mind sent off.

Derby at Sid james perhaps? Could be argued either way I suppose but he intended to wipe the player out irrespective if he got the ball or not.

I do tend to agree with you but he does have a petulant side to him where when he doesn't get a decision, loses the ball or is fouled himself he goes looking to give some retribution.

Aye but, to be fair, Scholes is/was the best English midfielder of his generation. He couldn't tackle very well but literally every other aspect of his game was top notch.

When was that then ?

We'd not f***ing won until he got sent off tonight

Scholes has been sent off 3 times more than Cattermole since 2001/02

considering some of the tackles Scholes has got away with it boggles the mind.

Swansea away, they hadn't threatened us once in the game and we looked solid. He went off, Meyler come on and was utter gash. We were soon getting our box peppered.

A nice way of saying he lost control of the ball.

i wouldnt say its retribution, more a case of making amends.
I agree with his petulance, he needs to lose the attitude such as clapping off the ref after the derby mach.

The difference being, Scholes' tackling is always laughed off. "Haha little scholesey, he's never been able to tackle has he?"
Makes me sucking sick

He's 24 now, and could play his role until he's 34. He seems to have had a long time, but if he learns by the time he's 26, he could be a good midfielder for another eight years.

He seems to have cut out the really vicious side of his game now, and is all the better for it. Who's to say he won't be able to remove these silly challenges from his game?
