I want to buy this for a laptop for our daughter, do I get the Java or Windows 10 version?

We've had this for the Switch but find its difficult to play at times and am hoping that the laptop version will be better.

Do I just download it from the Minecraft website?

Any recommendations or tips greatly appreciated.
