Milli Vanilli

Pet shop boys and Depeche Mode, once they set the sequencer away, they're just a karaoke turn really.

True though.
In fact, Milli Vanilli are probably better than anything in your collection
Put ya lip away man, If you enjoy listening to karaoke music, that's OK, there's no need to be defensive about it, listen to what you want mate, that's perfectly alright.

Slightly different scenario but Plastic Bertrand didn't sing Ça Plane Pour Moi or any of the first two albums but sang on subsequent ones.

More bizarrely, though, Bernard Jewry, (Alvin Stardust) was in the right place at the right time twice! He was roadie for a band called Shane Fenton and The Fentones who had sent demos off to the BBC. The BBC took a while to get in touch, wanting to play their demos but in the meantime, the real Shane Fenton had died aged just 17. Jewry stepped in for him and they had a couple of minor hits.

About 12 years later a bloke by the name of Peter Shelley wrote and recorded a song under the name of Alvin Stardust, which started to climb the charts and when Top Of The Pops wanted to put the song on, Shelley decided he didn't want to be a pop star so contacted his manager who also managed Jewry and they created the Alvin Stardust image. He mimed to Shelley's recording on TOTP then sang on all of the subsequent Stardust hits.

If you listen to Coo Ca Choo, it's a completely different voice to the likes of Red Dress.

Luckiest bloke in the music industry, twice over! 😎

I was gonna mention Plastic Bertrand: the second most famous Frenchman after Hercule Poirot.

An American woman Marnie Nixon did the singing for numerous female film stars, iirc she was uncredited initially. The King and I, WestcSide Story and My Fair Lady being three.

Some cracking musicals tbf

So famously French that they were both Belgian. 😁

Similarly, Jeremy Brett's voice was dubbed on On The Street Where You Live, much to Brett's chagrin. He was a very good singer, in his own right and was furious that the studio had already drafted in a dub voice, unaware that he could sing.

Brett, of course, went on to be outstandingly good as Sherlock Holmes in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

When it comes to music, I'm a font of absolutely useless knowledge.

Most bands nowadays use Autotune so they probably can't sing "live".
There's a clip of Fab Morvan singing in 2018 and he sounds pretty good.

London boys had some great tunes during a great period to be young .
