Mignolet - third best premier league keeper last season

I said he was average. IMO that's a fair assessment.
If that, or 'decent' is good enough for you then fair enough.

IMO we should have higher aspirations.

Mig is fine if we want to finish lower-mid table.

back that up???

We have players to play to a good level at left back, both wings and in midfield.

We don't have a keeper to play to a good level in goal.

Not a difficult concept to grasp.

so you'd rather shell out 10mill plus on a higher standard gk rather than improve more pressing matters concerning the squad? makes no sense when hes more than adequate. nemos just been pessimistic regarding a potentially poor season ahead for him

We aren't too bad off in goal tbf, we could do with a new full back if Richardson is off.

As I said to you months ago, I think Campbell is shite and he really isn't good enough. We need to address that issue before looking at other areas. Goalkeeper is not an issue.

Just out of interest do you rate Westwood as better than Mig?

Have you ever played with a good keeper?

I'm no pessimist. :-D

I've seen a few top class Keepers develop over the years and in in my view you have no idea how they'll turn out until their mid twenties. Way more impressive keepers than Mig have failed to make the grade. It's a risk to place so much trust in such a young lad, that's all Wanny is saying.

i don't think mig loses us too many points, on the other hand i don't think he wins us many points either.
i can't think of ANY successful team with a keeper who doesn't WIN points.

When he learns how to catch a ball, I'll begin to concede he's a good keeper.

Till then, we desperately need a new no.1 if Westwood isnt in O'neil's plans.

i knew there'd be one. should've kept my mouth shut!!

mig is ok, he doesn't worry me too much but i think goalkeeping is a mindset. some are defensive and save shots, others like schmeichel are aggressive and win points.

the very best keepers do what they should and extra on top. mig does what he should and rarely lets himself down. if that's good enough so be it, there's worse than mig on the pitch but his position is critical.

Who was saying he wasn't a good shot stopper he's a tremendous shot stopper. He's just crap at everything else.

short distance reaction shots you're probably right.
i've seen a few long range shots go passed him that were at the very least questionable.

His positioning, footwork, handling and anticipation are at best commensurate with his experience but he's not exactly the most agile of keepers. Brave as Lion though which is a massive plus for any Keeper. I'm not exactly fretting about him but personally I'd be looking to bring in an experienced keeper for the times when his confidence evaporates, and it will.

I'd rate them on a par tbh - different strengths and weaknesses. Both good enough for lower table/championship teams.

I've played with some very good keepers, and some crap ones, although i'm not sure what that's got to do with it.

Tremendous when it's near him, poor if he has to stretch himself.

A higher standard keeper and striker will have a more direct effect on points gained than any other position.

Richardson is a good full back, and Larsson and McLean are good enough on the wings. We do potentially need strengthening with the right player in centre midfield, however I'd be surprised if MON signs a midfielder.

Mug isn't good enough - watch reruns of his performances v WBA, Everton and man city away and tell me different.
