Mignolet set to return

If Gordon had been so good there wouldn't be so much controversy about him. He does not command his box and he doesn't get off his line quickly enough. Ok, he's a shot stopper but he lets in too many softies in other situations, cross shots are also one his glaring weaknesses, remember the one against the mags at the sol a couple of years ago from way out on the left. One of many. I don't care who plays in goal but I accept that Gordon has his weaknesses and he lets in soft goals.

Mignolet doesn't, throwing yourself aimlessly at balls is not commanding. It's idiotic.

Gordon ran to the edge of the box and caught one last week, mig would not have went to catch that.

On this entire thread I've yet to see Masterplan pick out one attribute of Mignolets that is better than Gordons.

Crosses
Commanding his area
Communication and organising his defence
Clean sheets

That should keep you going for the next hour.

The fact that you remember him doing it makes it remarkable as well as unusual.

He isn't any better than Gordon of crosses or commanding his area at all.

So that must be Gordon is better at;
Shot stopping
Handling/catching the ball
Judgement
Distribution

All more important than the things you listed

The first two he just charges out like head strong and never catches and it and only rarely gets something on it.

I see both keepers shouting at the back four, but in fairness the defence this season has been organised by O'Shea/Brown more than anyone else.

Clean sheets isn't an attribute its a stat! Means nowt.

Nah you are wrong mate, mig charges out and gets nowhere near the ball. But as long as he does that the natives think that makes him commanding.

He is. Much better.

One of the funniest things I see people say is about the famous 'shot stopping'. EVERY goalkeeper should be a good 'shot stopper', they wouldn't be playing professional football if they weren't.

The only area Gordon can claim to be better in is distribution.

Whether they 'should be' or not is irrelevant because they aren't. The same as a player shouldn't miss a penalty, a free shot from 12 yards, but they do.

I would agree with that. I don't care who plays as long as we win games, too many on here are willing to settle for less and Gordon was part of that less. If he plays I do get behind him.

Is he shite. Mignolet rarely comes for corners/crosses nowadays and when he does he tends to flap at it as opposed to catching it.

Every freekick and corner Gordon came for last week he collected and usually set us off on a counter attack.

This thread is starting to remind me of the one where thecozmo said Campbell was better than Eto'o

Gordon is 30 this year and Mignolet is just 23. He has alot of years on him to develop.

That's my overriding feeling when trying to separate the two. People forget Mignolet is still a young lad learning his trade, and will get better with time. I'm not convinced Gordon will get any better and he's shown in the past that despite being fairly solid, he struggles to avoid daft injuries.

Tbh Gordon could have another 7 seasons in him easily, the best keepers in the league are mid thirties as they've got the experience, eg Given, Friedel. Van dar sar before he retired,

Totally different, cross was at near post and more speed on the cross than the one from Sam Ricketts. Gordon had ages to respond and just stood there, Mignolet didn't have time to get there for that goal.
