Mignolet, Bramble & Welbeck

I was horrified by the Bramble signing, and said so.

But I was completely wrong, of course, and so it shows that a top Premiership manager knows a lot more than a poster on a message board. Funny that...

I offer all the Bruce bashers the opportunity on this thread to put pride to one side and be big enough and admit that 'I was wrong' and that, in fact Steve Bruce does know best and is doing a very good job.

The keeper has had two good games and looks better each game but he struggled to command his box pre season and in his early games. I still think he should have got someone in and so does Bruce hence he tried to sign an experienced keeper but failed. Mignolet actually looks like he is enjoying playing now and is visibly more confident.

Bruce is doing well although he got his first substitution wrong yesterday and needed to rectify it with another two.

Colchester, City, Wigan, Arsenal. I didn't see any of the WBA game so can't comment but I make it four good games rather than two

I thought Bramble would be a good buy, felt Mignolet might have been a risk but one we were perhaps forced into taking and had no real opinion on Welbeck.

However it's far too early to make a proper judgement on any of them. I'd be saying the same had they all had nightmare starts as well.

Kneejerking is still kneejerking even if it's positive.

Agreed, but I would much prefer it is people had the attitude when we signed people of "He will be a good asset and enhance the team" rather than "hes shite, wtf have we signed him for, lets hope he fucvks up so I am right"

I had my doubts about playing a young inexperienced keeper but I have to say that Mignolet looks a far better prospect than Gordon did when he arrived. I don't think that Gordon should automatically replace Mignolet when he is fit.

Bramble has been ok so far, no complaints.

Wellbeck has also been ok in most of the games he's played. One thing I did look for yesterday was some sort of aerial threat, bearing in mind the number of corners and free kicks we put in, I still think that we looked a bit powder puff in that department whether it was Welllbeck or Gyan alongside Bent.

Bruce took a load of shit on here for 'selling us short' in the GK department, the 'pointless' loan signing of Danny Welbeck and 'rubbish' purchase of the mistake-ridden Titus Bramble. After the WBA game many of these complaintants wanted Steve Bruce removed.

Funny that these three have been amongst our best players as the club makes a solid start to the season and in fact look as if we have a really good chance to finish towards the top 8 or 9, possibly pushing for European football this season.

to be fair the people having a go at welbeck had never seen him play and rated jones as a drogba

There's certainly a tendency to leap on players from some, rather than affording them a reasonable length of time to show their potential. There was a thread about Riveros not being good enough after, I think, one half of football (there were threads decrying him after about 20 minutes of a friendly game for Paraguay against Eire, before he'd even played for us!).

Unfortunately I think this type of thing leads others to feel that they need to act as a counterweight and be delusionally positive, and similarly jump to conclusions.

All three players mentioned have shown signs of being good additions thus far but the jury is always going to be out after five games of football.

If you're looking remorse, honesty and acceptance of truth, wrong place I'm afraid.
This area is for bitterness, bigotry and snideness.
Fortunately it's only practised by a small clique.
All 3 were truly inspired signings by bruce, reflective of the fact that at last we have a proper manager at the helm.

Are you on auto reply now?

I thought Bramble was an average PL centre back I may be wrong and hopefully am as ATM he is looking a good PL centre back and at 1million is a steal. Mignolet was No1 too quick and I think the first few games showed that but as I thought he would looks a decent keeper. Wellbeck is ok doubt he will score many goals though if we hadn't have signed Gyan I would be worried if he was our only other striker.

Well that wouldn't have happened as if we hadn't signed Gyan we'd have signed somebody else

Just wondering whether any of the people that were unhappy to see these 3 players at the beginning of the season have anything to say on the mattter now?

Could you sleep better at night if they did?

Why?

People on message boards make judgements based on what they know. The fact is their knowledge base is considerably lower than the coaching, scouting and management of the club.

In the past, we have made some truly awful signings, the most recent probably being Halford but Bruce seems to have a deserved reputation within the game for being rather good at recognising ability and, just as importantly, developing it.

I was worried about Mingnolet particulary after the Birmingham game but he has got to grips with the pace of the english game and has proven to be a brilliant buy from Brucey.

To be honest I thought Bramble would do ok and for 1 million was a snip he was a proven premiership defender with 10 years experience. Bruce new him better than anyone so I was confident. He has surpassed my expectations.

Wellbeck was an unknown quantity to me so I didnt have an opinion on him until I seen him play but the fact he was a loan signing suggested to me that it was a no lose situation for us. Provided cover and if he was shite he goes back to Utd. Not set the world alight but proved a good addition to the squad. He's only young and will get better whether thats with us remains to be seen.

It's just nice to be proven right. I was in favour of all 3 signings and said so at the time. That makes me right and leaves a lot of fools with egg on their faces. No wonder so many were eager for Bruce to fail back then, although they now seem to have swallowed their medicine and got back on board.

i thought welbeck was a pointless signing. never heard of mignolet and i rated bramble but thought our fans would ruin him.

delighted to be wrong there

Yes they all wanted that.

It's a discussion board if everyone agreed it would be a shite place.

No-one is perfect.
