Bruce took a load of shit on here for 'selling us short' in the GK department, the 'pointless' loan signing of Danny Welbeck and 'rubbish' purchase of the mistake-ridden Titus Bramble. After the WBA game many of these complaintants wanted Steve Bruce removed.

Funny that these three have been amongst our best players as the club makes a solid start to the season and in fact look as if we have a really good chance to finish towards the top 8 or 9, possibly pushing for European football this season.

I offer all the Bruce bashers the opportunity on this thread to put pride to one side and be big enough and admit that 'I was wrong' and that, in fact Steve Bruce does know best and is doing a very good job.

I think people were more scared of the fact that if Mignolet got injured we were stuck with Carson, they werent really saying he was a bad signing to be fair to the kneejerkers.

HOWEVER! The meltdown of when Bramble signed showed how uneducated a lot of fans are, or at least they believe the tabloids or snippets of MOTD to judge a player. Titus Bramble is the most talented (apart from Mensah) Centreback at Sunderland I have seen in my lifetime!

Agree totally wasnt sure of any of the above signings. Thought mignolet was very nervy against brum understandably and would not come of his line and was worried bout the lad but he has shown confidence in the last few games and will give Gordon a tough time getting back into the side. Bramble had been excellent and from been signed as maybe a squad player the way he has played he currently is a deffinite starter. Wellbeck has surprised me a lot have said he is no better than waghorn but the way he holds up the ball and holds off defenders has been class. Liked waggy but dont think he could have done the job welbeck did yday. So far so good with all three.

The fact that most people on here now agree that Bruce has acquired 3 very good footballers is more important than raking up previous judgements that were based on gut reaction.

Having said that, I would always advocate giving players some time to settle before making an assessment.

If you're looking remorse, honesty and acceptance of truth, wrong place I'm afraid.
This area is for bitterness, bigotry and snideness.
Fortunately it's only practised by a small clique.
All 3 were truly inspired signings by bruce, reflective of the fact that at last we have a proper manager at the helm.

Agreed. Although there are lots of honest supporters who will hold their hands up and say they are wrong, there are a lot of supporters that are waiting if not hoping Bramble fucks up so they can say ''told you he was shite''.

Even Bruce had reservations about Mignolet
I must admit, he was the only one of the 3 that I was concerned about,so I'll hold my hand up there.
But it is far too early to talk about top 8 or 9 and European footy, or do NUFC have a better chance of it and is Chris Hughton looking an excellent manager?

Personally I thought the appointment of Bruce was going to be a mistake, BUT after seeing his dealings in the transfer market I now think he's the man for us, he has done a brilliant job in getting rid of a lot of deadwood and replacing them with top class players, and judging by what's happening on the pitch now we are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with, so well done Steve bruce.

I'm happy to say 'i was wrong' on one of the three that being the keeper. I didnt want us going into the season with an unproven keeper with the likelyhood that Gordon might at the time have been out for months.

I needn't have worried Mignolet is a fine keeper.

I wasnt particularly happy at the signing of Bramble at the time but for £1m Bruce got a bargain

You started and start most of the shit on here......

To be fair to Hughton I think he's done a fantastic job there and there good start is down to hard work and a great team spirit, plus one or two very decent players like Ben Arfa, Barton and Carroll. We're better though.

I honesty think we have a chance to overahul Villa and Everton this season while we should be looking to finish above Blackburn, Stoke, Fulham and Bolton, perhaps Birmingham too.

I would love to go back and find some of the vitriol posted on here about these by some numbskull twats...... but cant be arsed to waste my time. There were some proper breakdowns......quite funny really

The only reservations i had were on Mignolet, just thought he was chucked in the deep end to early, and i was frightened it would destroy his confidence,if he had a couple of bad games, thankfully he has been outstanding, quite happy to be proven wrong.

My admittance of bring wrong is none of the above but is below:

I never thought that Keiron Richardson would make a decent left back. I'm happy to say that Bruce looks to have proved me wrong.

Isn't that my point about being too early? Or shall we see how we fair against Villa at home and Everton away?

Two of this seasons very average teams !!!!!
We are far from the team that played them two last season.

It's a long way to go marra and I admire your optimism. IMO, despite the domination of some games, we still don't work the goalkeeper enough. We are creating chances and getting hardly owt on target. That will need to change and hopefully it will.

It doesn't alter the fact that it is still too early to predict anything because at the moment we still have the same points from those two teams that you mentioned, City and Arsenal, as last year when we didn't get near Europe and the two matches that the mags played we got fuck all from.

Can't argue with that. Hopefully once we get Gyan and Bent playing together we'll offer more of a threat. The rest of the team though, midfield, back four..mindblowingly good IMO
