The wife and I went for a drive to Scarborough in the TF yesterday, and on the way back the wife asked how you turn the passenger side airbag off, I didn't actually know. So, this morning I did a search on Google, and it turns out you can't turn off the passenger side airbag and the car was never approved to have a child/car seat fitted!!!

So it looks like I'll have to get rid of it for something a little more child friendly

Anyone else had to change their car because of children on the way?

I presume you could just get it removed altogether? (the airbag, not the child)

Yeh, but in the event of a crash the seats and position on the seat belts are not in a suitable place to fully support a baby seat.

Got rid of my A4 cabriolet, and now drive a focus! :-(

First your many baby compromises then. ;)

Get yourself a Renault Kangoo and a vasectomy.

I for one, will be glad to hear the last of said MG.
Get a nice people carrier.

I got rid of a Celica, replacing it with a Volvo S40......due to the fact that you had to be a contrortionist to get the terrors into their car seats in the back without any rear doors!

Thankfully normal service has now been resumed and the Vulva is a dim and distant memory!!

did you keep your driving gloves?

Why've you got one of those when you could've got an MX-5 anyway?

edit: Oh and get an MX-5, you can disable it in them

Ah shit forgot about that too.....bought an MX5 and the mrs fell pregnant, only got one summer out of it before having to trade it in for a Mazda 6 when they first came out.....talk about one extreme to another!

How have you found the TF ned? Any pitfalls. Any probs with the head gasket?

So far so good.

The brake discs on the front must have been worn, but I changed the discs and pads at the weekend and all is well again.

I replaced the accelerator cable because it was a bit stiff.

Changed the alternator belt the other week.

As for the head gasket, I think I've got a good one here. I've had the car almost 2 month and so far no drop in water or oil. When I first got it, I changed the air filter, oil and spark plugs, but I noticed some oil in the spark plugs, turned out it was the cam cover gasket, so I changed that, but because I had that off I could see in the top of the engine, and there was absolutely no sign of head gasket failure at oil, i.e. no sign of that creamy stuff anywhere.

I'd consider getting rid of the TF for a ZT, but I'm concerned that I won't be lucky and and get a second MG with no head gasket issues.

We drove to scarborough yesterday with the roof down, and I've got a cracking red forehead mind...but it was a great experience.

Why would you get a two seater car to transport a kid around?

I have one as a weekend car and no chance would I ever think that it is a car that you can have for everyday use, I told you this when you said you were getting it.

Are you sure you have not just bought this as your only car?

I bought the TF a month before the wife said she was pregnant. At the time I bought it as a runaround to get me to work and back, and a little fun on a weekend. We've got another car that's good for a family.

The TF looks more modern than the MX-5, and the fact it was british was a factor as well. Also, mid engined, rear wheel drive.

The MX-5's dynamics, handling and performance are all better than the MG's. The MX-5's front engined, rear wheel drive sytem provides way better handling than you get in the MG, oh and it's a Mazda and will keep going and going. Apart from the MG being British (which is rarely a good thing apart from in supercars) it has nothing which is remotely close to being as good as the MX-5
