Its seems that the "surprise" for fans that Gray predicted would emerge within a couple of weeks was an ownership bid for SAFC by people he knew. It is not likely to have been Donald's bid which Gray seems to have been unaware of. Gray is therefore understandably upset that the bid he favoured was not successful and has been surprised by the fact that there was a very advanced bid in competition with the one he knew of.

Over the past weeks Bain has indicated quite clear over that there were a number of parties interested in buying SAFC including as he said some "time wasters". Bain never disclosed at what particular stage any of the bids that had interested Short were at. I can understand that because you don't want limit your own options by discouraging anyone who is keen on buying so you keep your cards close to our chest.

I should imagine that Donalds group started their buying process some time before Gray's and simply won the race. Given the very well publicised financial woes of SAFC I can't imagine that anyone would consider buying the club without going through the books in great detail. Gray's people may have got through some of them before Sunday and Gray might be assuming that Donalds group skipped that process entirely . I really don't think that anyone could be so desperate to buy SAFC that they would not under take due diligence. SAFC is special to us but not so special that we would risk all we had just to buy it.

Gray must have been deflated and disappointed when his group- who right up to the last minute was probably encouraged to keep going by Short and Bain found out that another outfit had beaten them to it. That's just business. Despite Gray's "warnings" I don't see anyone having a change of mind a this stage . Mickey it best to just move on.

That's the way I see it. I wonder if Bain was actually by-passed by Donald's group or he's just kept Gray's group hanging on.

IIRC Donald was linked with us about 2 weeks ago or maybe even longer. At the time he said it would take something significant for him to be part of a consortium to buy the club. That alone should tell you that this group and/or Donald have done some background checks.

Listened to him on talk sport today. He doesn't sound very happy. Said we are being investigated by FIFA because we have signed two players and not put the payments through the books? He said one was an Inter player (so clearly Alvarez) but didn't mention the other.

Edit: Also said the Donald consortium hasn't even done due diligence so will be two months before they can take control. I'm assuming that's bollocks?

Gray needs to put up or shut up about not putting any payments through the books, because that is quite clearly against the rules and could have dire consequences if we did it. The Alvarez deal has already been the subject of scrutiny and,as far as we were aware, resolved, even though it seems we may have been in the wrong. If there's another one where we've been guilty of wrongdoing,we need it to be dealt with now,so the new owners inherit a clean slate. If FIFA are aware of it,then presumably the new owners will be too. Gray can't go around making unsubstantiated statements like that.

There will be 100s of club's getting investigated by FIFA.

Some of them, yes. That's not to say things can't have changed in some small ways, but the main details about the calibre of the bid have only been reaffirmed to me since the takeover and the main thing people should know is that the people coming in have a LOT of money.

I think the actual number of investors might only be being finalised this week, but that's my interpretation of things. Only a handful of people will know exactly where the whole thing is as a process.

I hope you’re right. That lot from up the road who post on here are already f***ing rattled. This could finish them off.

No doubt, but "not putting it through the books" implies some kind of fraud designed to circumvent some rule or other, possibly even tax. He just can't say things like that on national radio without backing it up....even if it is on Talksport, which everyone knows is a station with an ethos of winding people up.

Not the debt, the running costs, £40 million parachute payment, the wage bill plus having to pay for Alarez plus one other?
The worrying thing was 2 of the 3 'bidders' didn't get to speak to Short, no due diligence has been performed and the 'mystery consortium'.
The deal is far from done.

i would suggest if the owner has already withdrawn from his other club then it almost certainly is. Short has made his statement - its pretty definite and the next few months will still be full of scaremongering stuff and at the end of it the new owners will certainly be the Eastleigh led consortium.

Fifa are aware of Álvarez but I guess we didn’t know which column to put it in as we had buy a player that was never ours

He is selling Eastleigh and looking for a buyer.
Would the ownership of Sunderland be dependent this sale first?

Aye, Gray was a snivelling little shithouse for mentioning the transfer thing like.

Talksport only employ tip tasting belt fed penises.

But starting that process debt free, as opposed to starting it with an existing millstone is different. If Short doesn't pay off the debt, it's pegged at anywhere between £70-£100m guaranteed. IF the new owners have given Short anything, that's between them and Short. The club haven't borrowed money on behalf of the club to buy the club. You realise that yes? Nobody gets to buy a football team by saying 'we'll buy it if they say yes because we don't have any money and need to take out a loan on behalf of the club to make the purchase' :D Imagine passing the 'fit and proper' test if that was your mindset.

Also, I'm confident the people involved have substantial amounts of money. I'll wait on the details and longer term plans, but they are ready to put a lot of money into the club.
That’s exactly how The Glazers bought Utd.
