Michigan Central Station Detroit

Homes became so cheap that people started moving back. Lot of internet workers buying huge family houses for buttons as it doesn’t matter where they live.
I’ve nivver been but having read so many Elmore Leonard and Loren Estleman novels I feel like a native. Frank Murphy Hall Of Justice, Eight Mile Road, Grosse Point, The Birwood Wall, Wayne County Circuit Court, Detroit Free Press, Fox Theatre, The Stooges, MC5, Woodfield Ave, Belle Isle etc
Lions to win the super bowl by 2495, any takers?
I've still not been. My in-laws live there, that's probably why. 🤣

Looks like it was a mess in the Trump era but Biden is turning it around. Fair play to him.

The restoration was started 3 years ago with Trump in power. The City Council has been run by Democrats forever. This is what Detroit looked like in 2013 with Obama in power.

And in June this year under Biden is suddenly became appealing enough for Ford to buy up the building.

Vaccines and business. Jabs and jobs. Fair play to 'big Joe' on this one.

Detroit is the poster child for urban decay and blight.
It's certainly a warning to places like Sunderland to diversify it's employment, were still more or less a one-trick pony town under Nissan, council and business leaders should have done a hell of a lot more with this problem after all of this time starting in and around the town centre.

You must be suffering from the heat. As indicated by the fact that I posted this thread in September 2018, Ford acquired the building in 2018.
Yet waited until June 2020 to do so. I wonder what change in America they were waiting for until they moved ahead......

Jabs & jobs.

I spent a couple of weeks working in Auburn Hills more than 25 yrs ago. The region was still relatively prosperous back then but No way would I have got out of my car for a wander round the central areas of Detroit, no matter how "interesting" it looked

I love Detroit, you could see what it would have been like in its heyday and it would have been superb. I hope it gets back on its feet.
You should watch this Shea Show clip. He's just finishing restoring a house for an Australian client. It is 3 bedroom, 2 storey and a basement and it cost.............. $11,000 .

Worked in Detroit for over a year in the eighties. Lived downtown and loved it. Plenty of good bars in Greek Town, The Warehouse District and Cork town around the old Tiger Stadium. Took the train from that station many times. When I moved to California I took the train from their to Chicago and then on to LA.

My wife loved Greek Town too. Great food apparently.

Food was amazing and it was always quite a show when Saganaki (Flaming Greek Cheese) was ordered. Unfortunately the Greek Town Casino has killed off alot of the atmosphere of the neighborhood. The Golden Fleece seems to be the last of the Ma and Pa Greek restaurants open.

The Roosevelt Warehouse derelict ten years ago.

The warehouse is now fully restored.
