Agree...should be given a chance. However, according to a gentleman on here, he's a "joke"

He would be a f***ing disaster

By the way you are obsessed with me, everytime someone replies to my post, you like it, you spend a lot of time searching my posts! quite funny

He would have been an ideal choice, but he seemingly pulled out of the running when it became apparent that selection matters would be dictated to him in advance. His tweet of today probably sheds a little bit of light on why he was adjudged "unsuitable":

I'll take a wild guess and say that Strauss will go the opposite way and further prop up the current, failing side and their negative brand of cricket. He has a chance to prove me wrong over the next few months - starting with his press conference tomorrow - but I don't think we should hold our breath. It will be "as you were".

Regaining the Ashes.

he has never coached before in his life, he had the chance to be director of cricket and bottled it, so he's had his chance and blown it.

He prefers to sit from a distance and criticise rather than to do something about it, thats his choice, not the ECB's

Gillespie please

He wasn't applying for the job of coach. Doesn't matter now, the winds of change have been averted again with the appointment of good old Straussy.

Thank god for that, cardigans on and a nice cup of tea...

There's no need to be nasty. I thought Vaughan was a successful captain, that's all. Bloody hell...
I was having a go at the other guy saying he was like Gary Neville. Other than playing for England there's very little similarity, I thought it was a weird comparison to make. I assumed he was saying they've both gone into commentary because they haven't got the bottle to be managers but their commentary styles are totally different (Vaughan is deliberately controversial) and Neville has gone into coaching whereas Vaughan hasn't so it doesn't even work on that level.

Apols!
