We enquiried but villa wanted silly money iirc. Was well reported at the time
Must have washed it from my memory. All I can recall is how utter shite he was against us at the SoL last season, if thats the type of player we're after then I suppose it's going to be same old same old this season. Hopefully it's just made up shite though

The same shite player that scored that blinder for us against Chelsea when he was on loan.

Villa last season were f***ing awful from top to bottom, difficult for any of their players to be up for it I would have thought.

Many on here wanted him last season and he ended up at Villa who for 99% of the season were a club and team with no identity, no direction and a severe lack of quality.

He may be okay at RB, he is a strong lad who before last season had experience at big teams and abroad, not sure if last season ruined him but he may regain some form under the right circumstances.

However it does worry me that we aren't going all out to seriously improve this position. If we only signed players in two positions it would be a RB and a striker so why cut costs here and end up picking up a couple more average players that end up sitting on the bench at best? We are strong in the centre with Kabul, Kone and O'Shea as back up, PVA has proved he can be a real asset although question marks are still there and then we have a position that was filled by a young lad on loan with little experience. I liked Yedlin but I think we need a bit more experience here. Richards has the experience but is he damaged goods? It would seem like a risk to me and unless we really are going do this cheap it feels like the wrong choice.

However an alternative in this position I couldn't name one that would either come here or available.

Other than the fact that they are both black and have played for Man City, I am at a loss to explain how you can mix up Nedum Onuoha and Micah Richards like.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign a first choice RB and use Richards as cover/competition at both RB & CB

Just think though that IF the Norwich result had gone against us it would have been us going down.....do you honestly believe that the likes of PVA, Mannone, Kone, Kaboul, Kirchoff, Defoe, Borini, Khazri and Watmore wouldn't attract a lot of interest.

This.

It's always been my argument when the topic of 'don't buy relegated players' has arisen.

Half the teams in the Prem would have Defoe alone - can you imagine a Bournemouth message board discussing the imminent signing of Defoe, Kirchoff and Kone from relegated Sunderland and 'CherriesWorries' posting 'Nope wouldn't have them, never ever buy from a relegated team'

This would be acceptable to me.

Who have we bought from relegated teams ? I can only think of Fletcher.

I've read that three times now trying to see if you were saying something or just totally mixed up onouha and Richards, I guess you just mixed them up.

Am i the only one who thinks for the money it could be a really good signing.

I couldn't believe when people were writing off Kaboul before he signed as well, i really think Richards will be in the same mould.
I'll hold my hands up about Kaboul, thought he was shit, he's actually a lot better than alright.... Richards could be a very good signing. Everyone would have been happy if we'd got him last close season, it's only the Villa debacle last season that's putting people off, but anyone would have struggled in that Villa team. £5m is a bit much like but I suppose this season prices have went silly more than any other year of inflation, so it's probs in comparison the same as £3-£3.5m from last year, which is quite reasonable
