Methven in Private Eye again

Who's calling those of us who willingly helped (and enjoyed) restoring the seats."bob-a- job volunteers".....let's just leave it at volunteers....and cut out the smart-arse comments..

Charlie is what he is. Posh Del Boy, gets things moving, knows how to schmooze the right people, canny at marketing etc.

He's going to put his foot in it because frankly he can be a birrova tit. The lads on the Oxford forum back this up. Anyone who's worked with marketing types shouldn't be surprised at all.

It sounds like even Stewart Donald gets annoyed with him at times, on the recent podcast Charlie was talking about Stewart wanting to boot him all over the pitch.

For all of that, The Don chooses to work with him and so should we. He comes from a different world, we should cut the bloke some slack and see what he can do for us. It could be the start of a beautiful friendship, whatever happens it'll be classic Sunderland.

David Jones sounded very, very cautious when discussing Methven on the podcast IMO

Unreal the amount of cry babies on this forum like. Early days, but Methven and Donald are looking like the best thing to happen to our club in donkeys, can't recall a feel good factor like it for ages. And that feel good isn't just winning games, it's their desire to reconnect the club to the fans, and they've been doing an excellent job of it.

The real parasites are those that can't wait for it all to go wrong, those that are never happy unless we're doing shite, and they can gob off down the pub about how some poor local kid trying to break through into the team is crap.
Without considering how awful the majority of football club owners are, I really can't see how anyone can be unhappy about how Methven and Donald have conducted business thus far, and long may it continue.

"Argh I be he voted Tory, and his pants are pink"
Feck off ya whingey buggars.

Ha'way the Lads, and geet up Charlie lad!

So an a massive socialist you sympathise with a man educated in one of the country’s most expensive public schools and all access to all the privileges and opportunity that brings calling people in Sunderland parasites and judging them on how they spend their money? In addition making reference to £12 not being a lot of money in a place where it’s an hourly rate to a lot of people

He didn't really say £12 isn't a lot of money, he just said he doesn't think there's many people who can't afford £12 but who can afford to go to the pub. There will be some who go and get 1 pint and nurse it all game, saving themselves a bit of money but his point is that many will probably spend the same as a ticket on drink during the game, or not far off it. Mind I'm not sure where he got £12 from since £18 is the cheapest I've seen.

Its £18 minimum plus booking fee if online. Plus whatever cost to get to and from game. Plus a pint or two whilst there. People could spend half the amount of money by staying local, watching the match and having twice as many pints.

They may not be the most dedicated of all of our supporters but they arent parasites.

Fair enough . I think he showed a lack of understanding of the value of £12 to some people . Used in the context of parasites it’s not great

He’s doing a very good job though

It was a daft choice of words but I think some have gone a bit over the top about it. He's apologised, said it's more the landlords he's got a problem with, probably time to move on from it. Mind, anyone watching in a city centre pub (and several were advertising) can't really complain about travel costs, and are likely close enough they could go to the ticket office and avoid the booking fee too. £18 or about £12 for 4 pints? You'd hope most would be able to spare the extra £6, maybe even make it £10 and have a few cans in the house before going to the match

I'd claim for my bus fare and taxis too if I were using them for work purposes. Not sure why folk get bent out of shape over people claiming back their dues from an employer "it's only a small amount, that's just greedy" - fuck putting your hand in to your own pocket on their behalf!

The article was saying he got pissed off with his own employees doing just that.

Green eye monster I suspect.

f***ing love putting expenses on the business.

I like his attitude. Gets things done. Even admitted when he first came that he will get things wrong.

Good on him for taking up the challenge

I suspect he's a bit of a twit. So far though he's been likeable enough and is doing a good job. I doubt I'd have similar views to his in most things, particularly politics but he's impressed me so far. Occasionally posh Tories do, not often mind.
