Had bad were they to us that night?

The atmosphere and vibe towards Sunderland and its supporters was utterly poisonous after that match when we went down. I was on a train from the ground back to Manchester and they were bitter and poisonous. We dared to take a point off them and killed their slim title hopes so they decided to take it out on little old Sunderland.

Thats not to mention the piss taking before the match about not winning a home match and being the worst side in premier league history.

Anyone who is getting precious about our mickey taking couldnt have been there that night. I have no affinity to City whatsoever but I enjoyed our supporters kicking theirs while they were down. Its hard to feel sympathy for 20 time premier league and 3 time European cup winners.

As for Fergie, he should be looking at himself, his transfer policy in the last three seasons and his team throwing away a big points advantage before anything else.

A bit of cheap rivalry goading the opposition fans and players is and always has been part of the price of entry to the match - whatever our more rational sensible selves might think the rest of the time. As others have said, City could have expected similar if it had been the other way around. If United had won the league they would have received the applause of the crowd too. We all have our bias and preferences when it comes to other teams, I'd be interested to know where Fergie the furious reckons any opposition fans would have behaved any differently. For many of us, and not just Sunderland fans, despite all the money involved at City, it makes a change to have a different club win the league. City's fans have been many of the hardships supporting their club that Sunderland fans can relate to and have backed their team regardless as we have. I am personally pleased for their fans who have had to watch the media love in with Manchester United just as we have to listen to the media love in with Newcastle.

Next season I hope Sunderland win the league, I know this isn't in any way likely. Whoever wins the league will have more money than us or will be paying more money than us. It might as well be City as any of the other "already won it" brigade, it helps with the dream of one day....

When it comes down to it we are more interested in our own team but the rivalry of football means that we can appreciate the football of another team but are always going to cheer the banana skins they fall on. There is a huge difference between goading a side who have ended up winning nowt, just like us and goading fans of clubs who have suffered the pain of relegation. We know all about the latter and have mostly met with fair fans elsewhere who have allowed us to grieve in peace.

Fergie is bound to be hurting and will lash out with a cheap line for the crowd, it won't stop him loaning to us and ge's bound to seel to us if he can get huge prices for players at the end of their careers, otherwise he'd never loan another play to any team in the premiership because at some time or other we've all pointed the finger and laughed it's part of football, and for a man with such a red nose, he has to appreciate that!

Gan on Fergie - our fans embarrassed themselves with their lame smalltime antics. First time I've ever been ashamed to be a Sunderland supporter.

didn't realise we had so many oversensitive Utd fans amongst us! It was a piss take, banter FFS - like if we had been relegated they would have been crying into their bovril for us.

Fergie; embarrased for him after that comment

A good post m8 - you should post more often!

Johnny Evans twice , Danny Simpson and Danny Welbeck for starters

We did him a favour.
The loan system is f***ing shit.
Without it welbeck would have had to move on.
With it, the big clubs can sign numerous up and coming youngsters, loan them out to clubs like ours, we give them experience and make them better players, so the parent club can then take them back and benefit.

Its a f***ing sham

Excellent post, class piece of wordsmithing! However those of a more sensitive nature, who appeared so badly traumatised on Sunday, will no doubt have something to say. :)

As far back as I can remember Ferguson has only ever said good things about SAFC. I can recall him describing us as a 'proper and traitional football club', 'great fans', 'difficult place to go', especially when we were at Roker Park, a stadium I think he had a soft spot for. He's encouraged some of his good young players to sign for us on loan or on perminent deals (some worked out, others were shite), but always with good intentions. Seems to me there's always been a mutual respect between the clubs.

Will you just fuck off and put your man u shirt on for fucks sake.

Mutual respect??? I was there when we went down after the 0-0 draw and because we had ruined their chance of the title they went on fukin ridiculous.
If Man City had lost the league on the final day of the season at the SOL we would have reacted exactly the same.

You didn't even want Sunderland to win so Man u could win the league.
How can any sunderland fan not want us to beat them? You are obviously a closet man u fan and a grade a ****

from tonights Man U player of the year dinner:

"Those Sunderland fans who cheered for City... we won't forget that"

We have an abysmal record against them anyway so what are they going to do? Beat us as per usual?

The vast majority weren't too fussed though, Shirley?

The bloke next to us wanted Man City to win the title but said he wasn't too fussed either way. The same with our crew.

We watched a bit at the end to see what was happening but I didn't chant anything to the mancs as they wouldn't have heard me anyway.

If they'd have been presented with the league trophy I'd have watched but I doubt I'd have applauded.

From a crowd of 44k-ish SAFC fans there were probably a few thousand who were vocal either way?

Which is nowt to get knickers into a twist about.

Wonder if he'll forget we did our bit by beating City and being the only side to take a point off them at the Etihad? Perhaps if his own team hadn't lost against them twice he wouldn't be crying like the sour old alchy he is.

This.

I wasn't really arsed either way, it was just funny the way it turned out, late drama etc.

He's always been a petty, vindictive man so I expect he'll go out of his way to ensure we get nowt from them again. Remember when his son got sacked by PNE and he recalled the players he'd loaned them the same afternoon? Having journos banned from press conferences for daring to ask a tough question, is another of his favourites.

Great manager but he's got a thoroughly nasty streak.

I can't really see the Glazers taking kindly to it if we provide the best offer for a player and he tries to stop the sale because our fans once sang a song from Monty Python to their fans.

the thing is city had to spend all that money in one go to catch up to man utd, id imagine they amount they spend per year from now on will decrease with only the odd player here and there as man u have been able to do because of the start of the premier league when the influx of cash effected them.

Exactly mate, been saying this to all the moaning utd fans for ages

Perhaps, though I think he's got about as strong a hand as it gets in a managerial position.

I don't really care, I mean it's up to him if he wants to act the bell, but he's shown form for pettiness before so I expect there'll be some goodwill having dried up, however that manifests itself.

You could say we did them favours. Evans benifitted from both spells here - the second spell coming just after his "rape" headlines - whilst Welbeck came on leaps and bounds.

I think he's a great manager but to think we're somehow in his debt is total bollocks.

And Simpson was hardly a favour... He was peddled to Blackburn on loan the season after.

Christ. If he'd just managed to keep the Old Trafford defeat down to a 2-1 they would have won it.

Remember Clough's last years? Very sad.

Ferguson will have private regrets about changing his retirement plans. He's got 1-2 seasons left now by his own schedule. A lame duck, but he can't possibly retire now after being knocked off his perch. This will end badly
