Ged will leave the club in 18 months when Philpott will take control of academy
This has got to be the direction of things. I can't see how we could poach this guy from Everton without offering him a role that is in excess of what he had at Everton. Giving him the job of steering the Academy under overall guidance from Congerton fits the bill.

I was interested in the timing of this recent article on the O/S. I was probably reading too much into things but it felt like a bit of preemptive horn-tooting to me. Wonder how many of the names mentioned will still be in place in 12 months time?

Just to repost what I put on the other thread on the subject, I know someone who has dealt with this fella professionally and he has nothing but good words to speak about him. He was the european scout for everton and wasnt so much a coach and has a kid in the youth set up at man utd. Said its a very good move bringing this lad in and he had a lot to do with with Barkley coming through specifically working with him closely and monitoring his progress.

Said it seems like a very good move and surprised we have got him.
Wasn't til half way through I realised you were on about the new coach and not mcnamee

Our academy has been ok hasn't it? Henderson 20million, Leadbitter 3.2million, waghorn 3million....Colback should have been 5million.
Stop it with your common sense truth. This board only accepts that the academy is rubbish and it is McNamees fault. Even though he has overseen our academy being independently viewed as one of the best in the country.

He told Henderson he could leave until kevin ball stepped in, so there goes that arguement

The numbers we have brought through are decent. Have no.idea if ged and co are doing a good job but I can see they are being judged on numbers plucked from think air and hearsay.

No pal. By that reckoning we've produced only 2 premiership players in 15 years. It's poor to be fair.

What's Philpott's credentials?

What's Philpott's credentials?

Head of national player recruitment for Everton's academy. Name-checked positively in a few articles online FWIW. Considering how decent Everton's academy has been (and their generally good recruitment of young players eg. Stones) it's a move that should be broadly welcomed. Aside from anything else, having more of Congertons men in place should make for smoother decision making and better alignment (in theory at least).

I wouldn't know but if the jobs for the boys stories are true then that's shocking.
As for the actual coaching then all I can say is that having watched many of the Academy teams play the type of football they play is first rate.
It's a high tempo possession based game in which you can clearly see that there has been an emphasis on technique and movement, they're very attractive to watch.
Kevin Ball despite the style of player he was is a big advocate of this.
That doesn't mean to say they've produced enough first team players, and that's probably something that needs to be looked at, but I wouldn't think the problem is the actual standard of the coaching.

The problem is not their style of play or their coaching it's their judgement of player its absolutly shit they either release them or hang onto them far to long even when it's clear they are never going to be good enough

Cheers for that. Is he friendly with Congerton.

Does anyone know how Everton have reacted to this news?

We Where also after stones to be honest I don't think everyone youth policy is muchto write home about they bought not produced most of them and also released alot of half decent players

Wasn't it Keane's assistant? He was booked onto a training camp with young, English players who had been released, I believe and Roy's mate (whose name escapes me) advised he should be given another chance.

Or a meringue?

Either way, shows Mcnamee knows fuck all

Henderson has certainly paid tribute to Roy Keane in the past.

The stories about how the club thought more highly of Colback over Henderson has always seemed bizarre. Henderson was being picked for the England youth teams.
