Unfair stick are you for real, talk to the people from the academy or the ones that used to be there, not a good word for him anyone.

Heard a rumour today that Ged is on his way Danny Philpott is coming in from Everton to work alongside Ged who will leave the club once Phillpot has settled in also hearing that Ged mate Dickman is getting pushed out to. About time club got rid of the dinosaur that mcnamee me is and hopefully his replacement can start to bring some good young players through.
I hope thats right because Ged has had his chance and fluffed his lines IMHO.

Our academy has been ok hasn't it? Henderson 20million, Leadbitter 3.2million, waghorn 3million....Colback should have been 5million.
First of all the Academy will dine out over the sale of an overpriced Henderson (the results of that deal got the DOF at Liverpool the sack) for years if people let them.

Secondly the likes of Leadbitter and Waghorn are playing in the FL, not for us, and the object of the exercise, primarily, should be to produce lads for our PL side - not some other clubs FL side. Clearly if we can sell a few on then thats fine, but it should be a by product of what we do, not what seems to me and others, at times, to be the club's primary youth policy.

Colback of course left for nothing.

These lads are our players - they should be getting coached to a standard where we see them feature regularly, at least on the bench and to a point where whoever our manager is he has full confidence that and he can call upon one of our U21 players and they will fit in.

We all know that the attrition rate is high but it seems to me that our attrition rate is way, way too high.

You also have to remember as well that Dickman was appointed to the setup when his playing career came to an end, under murray. It always appeared to me to be a sympathy appointment not based on his abilities but based on Murray trying to appear popular and humane. I have no idea whather anyone else agrees with that but that was my impression.

It appeared to be a nice sentiment but clearly, in hindsight, it hasnt added much to our setup. Such appointments should be be based on ability, nothing else. Too much at stake.

Dont know much about mcnamee or other academy staff but the facilities are second to none so something cant be right.

Agree

How many people are employed in the game as jobs for the boys rather than best candidate for the job

Its a fantastic facility and everything is setup for the right coaches to do a really good job. hopefully this is the start of something far more productive, youth wise, at SAFC. I crtainly hope so. Nothing would surely give us all more pleasure than seeing a regular sprinkling of home grown talent in our first team. This would, IMHO, increase the pride and passion in the team, as a start, particularly if the lads supported SAFC. they would surely play our of their skins to wear the red and white shirt with pride.

Thats all we surely want?

Happens the world over unfortunately marra. Nepotism and cronyism are recipes for low standards - in any walk of life.

Sometimes tough decisions need to be made, even if they are unpopular. thats the art of good management.

Cant disagree. When you see clubs like swansea, southampton etc massively out performing us with less resources you have to question some of the staff at the club. I get the feeling that a job at sunderland has been a cushy number. Perhaps ellis is starting to ask some questions and so he should as he is putting £20m in a year.

Agree with all of that. Points well made IMHO.

THIS when you look at how much of the populous this club should cover we should have had at least double the amount of first team starters over the years. Plus at least 3 more of hendersons calibre

That's a very specific number there, how did you come about it? I wonder, for example, how many English clubs have produced more than three players of Henderson's calibre in the last ten years.

I don't know an awful lot about him but if you're a postman who's managed to hit the letterbox twice in eleven years then sooner or later you'd expect questions to be asked about your ability to do the job.
