McGeady

I think he got lucky as fuck that Toivenon got injured on about 30 minutes. The enforced change swung the game for us.

Anyway, I was just pointing out the flaw in the lad’s point.
That Big Sam picked a team for a Tyne Wear derby and dilivered a 3-0 win? Probably not the best example of a Sunderland manager getting his team selection wrong!

It was early days for BSA to be fair. He didn't believe Defoe could play up front on his own. He was wrong of course.....

I miss Defoe :-(
Agreed. I was just responding to the lad saying that Allardyce knew to just play your best players no matter what. It isn’t true as he showcased there.

The sign of a good manager. He quickly acknowledged his mistake and and changed his mind for the benefit of the team.

Unlike Parky who still thinks the likes of Scowen, Power or Dobson are better attacking midfield options than McGeady would be!

Whose trying to give an example of that? I’m giving an example of Allardyce not always just mindlessly picking his best players which the lad I was responding to said he did.

BSA took a couple of months to work out the team and the players. He identified what we were lacking and that Jan window was possibly the best one this club has ever had

Mannone
Yedlin Kone Kaboul VanAanholt
Kirchoff
N'Doye Cattermole M'Vila Khazri
Defoe
What a team that was. That week where we beat Chelsea and Everton was just amazing

Went tits up for us and allardyce, ironically.

The thing I most remember from those days was the lack of injuries from players that have always been injured during their career. To get 13 games in a row from the likes of Kaboul, Cattermole, Kirchoff etc was the sign of a manager who knew what he was doing.

 those were the days my friend, great team - exciting times that are much missed.

Wee were pretty handy back then, sad to see where we find ourselves now - depressing really

Not fit and has one trick in his locker. Can't say I'm a fan of his. I would much rather we brought some of the youngsters into the team.
I agree mate
Come on mate, our squad stinks. The lad has a touch that the rest dont have. There's clearly room for him. Even if an impact sub. And I think we'd all like to see youth given a chance, more so than under parkinson, but mcgeady coming back is a definite positive.
I’m not a fan. I’d rather Embleton and Diamond got a run out in attacking midfield and lardy boy went elsewhere.

Let's never play him again then.
Personally I think that's a great idea. Definitely provided us with moments of magic but there were probably at least five times as many moments of mediocrity.

Parkinson's failure wasn't down to dropping McGeady, it was down to failing to utilise the youth system.
