McGeady on disagreement with Parkinson

The only reason people are bleating on about fitness is because if a photo of mcgeady and Maguire in macdonslds (stop the world) and Parkinson bringing in a fitness coach. There is nothing having watched our games that people would’ve picked up without it being highlighted.
This is proven with the ludicrous notion that Maguire doesn’t look fat anymore, he was never fat in first place, it’s people seeing what they want to see.

Look at when di Canio took over from O’Neil and he mentioned fitness, it was absolutely lapped up. Of course it was utter nonsense but people will always believe what they want to believe.

No it isn't mate not at all the McDonalds carry on to me is nothing even if others argue it was symptomatic of a bigger problem. Your second point about Parkinson bringing in a fitness coach is of course a factor as he did that, believe it or not, to improve their fitness on the grounds that they weren't fit enough. Why do you think Parkinson thought it was an issue and brought fitness coaches in on week 1? Last season we didn't really attempt to play a pressing game and we didn't have the pace to play a counter attacking game. We got by because ability wise we were as good as most, we had a great centre forward for half a season, the most creative player in the league who could get something out of nothing and at this level a top quality keeper that had a great season but it masked problems. With regards to Maguire he does get complacent and does let his fitness drop Parkin discussed Maguire last week saying his stats are right up there at the moment and his game, more than most relies on his fitness levels.

We are far from a good side. Player for player we are worse than last year IMO but we make up the difference because there is a beter structure, organisation and fitness to the team. There are teams as good as us in this league and many as fit. But we are capable of playing a pressing game for reasonably sustained periods in games that we couldn't do before.

Did you not see Maguire and McNulty, looking like they were in the early to mid stages of pregnancy ?
I 100% guarantee that Maguire if he lost any weight certainly wouldn’t have been enough to notice. We aren’t talking a bloke having to lose 3 or 4 stone here. He’ll have been 2 or 3 pound overweight at most. Trust me that’s not enough to make anyone sit up and take note.

He 'has looked overweight to me at times but what i see isn't really the issue. Parkin is adamant he has been unfit, his performance stats have been down and currently they are not. When you looked at McNulty did you also think he hadn't put on weight and it was just people seeing what they wanted to see?

Can’t say I took a great deal of notice of mcnulty if I’m honest but from an aesthetic point of view there’s not a hope in hell that anyone saw a significant difference in Maguire. Not a chance.

What are maguires performance stats now then in terms of distance distance covered etc in comparison to under Ross?

Far better according to Steve Parkin. I doubt the before and after stats will be on public record. Parkin's words and what i see correlate.

Far better according to our assistant manager. Hardly an impartial source.

According to Di Canio he improved our fitness after O’Neill. I’m far from convinced with that either.

Hes one of the few people absolutely in the know. Put it alongside the fact that almost everyone bar you has noticed a difference in Maguire (and the team as a whole) in terms of the fitness it seems a pretty fair assumption that Maguire and the team as a whole are indeed fitter.

We have picked up a few results (despite not playing well imo). Trust me all it takes is a couple of bad ones and let’s see if this ‘fitness regime’ is still having praise heaped upon it.
If the stats can be shown to Prove we are covering more ground, running more yards in final minutes etc il hold my hands up.

What I do know is that anyone claiming to notice a significant difference in maguires size are seeing exactly what they want to. You could lose half a stone and nobody would particularly notice and there’s no way Maguire had that much to lose if any.

There are better teams in this league than us and it wouldn't surprise me if we dropped results. It wont be down to being less fit and having the legs run off us as we are at Lincoln and Peterborough. There are still teams more physical and some just better.

Wasn’t it Walsall away last year we scored 2 at death to salvage a draw? If that happened now it would be all down to parky and just fitness coach.

Possibly although it was Walsall we conceded second half goals to in both cup ties against them while getting knocked out of the FA cup.

We have barely conceded any goals lately mate having more clean sheets in 2020 than any team in the entire football league.
We have been very tight and compact no getting away from that but I don’t think we’ve exactly been massively pressing high up pitch rather than just sitting in a bit looking for out balls.
Not knocking that mind as it’s a results business but I wouldn’t say the way we play lends itself to need extraordinary fitness levels.

No just better than what we had

Apart from us pressing high, playing a higher line, closing down the opposition at every opportunity in the Rochdale, Wycombe game. Players looking leaner which Maguire does, also represented by him lasting longer in games. He wasn’t as fit as he should have been, and he’s even recognised that himself. Not to mention the obvious, a massive change in results since our change in fitness levels as well as tactical changes. You’re wrong.
