McGeady on disagreement with Parkinson

The state of this thread, grown men deciding they know what players are like in training and whether they would be easily bullied.

I'm happy to stick with what we know. McGeady is as talented as any player in League One and had a really good spell in the second half of last season, but was poor in the Championship, often only produces in flashes, and poor at the beginning of this season. He doesn't work hard enough for the team, he leaves his full back exposed, and while he is capable of producing a winner out of nothing, his crossing is surprisingly poor, and he regularly slowed our attacks down through pirhouetting with the ball when we were trying to 'break'.

A new manager has come in, got us noticeably fitter and covering more ground. He has decided McGeady doesn't work in that system, his replacement (Gooch) has added a lot more, and without McGeady we have shot up the league.

I don't care whether McGeady will be sending Parkinson a Christmas card, or about social media rumours. I do know we are better off without McGeady, so hopefully he has played his last game for us.
Aye lets see how hard he works for Charlton...he got subbed 65 mins in his last game....Bowyer bigs him up but doubt he'll sign permanent for them

If Parko watched loads of SAFC matches on video he'd have seen him constantly giving the ball away including in the play off final which led to the fre e kick Charlton scored from

I like McGeady as a player, sometimes you want to see someone with that kind of technical ability for your ticket money and his ball control and technique were second to none.

That said, he is a player who can thrive if everyone is working hard off the ball around him and gets up into the box for his playmaking. We had no one doing that under Ross and at some stage it's not rocket science to see why some one of his age and experience probably switched off and became a problem.

Parkinson comes in with a rep for hard graft and taking no rubbish and it's obvious that a 34 year old flair player maybe doesn't fit the mould. So as they both admit.. That's football and the other stuff about the bullying and McDonald's is just a side show.

I'm not sure why Bowyer wanted him at Charlton as his tactics aren't too dissimilar to Parkinson having the whole team busting a gut and contributing off the ball. I maybe wrong but I can't see that working and London won't be his home next season.

The only sad thing is that we as fans may have to wait a while before we ever have squad players of his ability again.

Bowyer is obviously desperate for bodies and thinks he can get the odd goal out of him in the relegation run in - he doesn't fit the mould at all. That's what happens when you're relying on Jonny Williams to make it through a season ...quality player but made of glass

It was mentioned many times, by plenty of posters, iirc.
You only need look back at the matchday threads, of games under Ross.
I didn’t see one post of that nature. This time last year nobody had a bad word to say about Ross.
I started a thread asking if we should keep him if he fails to get us up, you’d have thought I’d asked if it was a good idea to hoy a toaster in the bath with ya.
At present all is rosy but I still don’t think we are playing well. Trust me with our fans we are only a couple if bad results away from another meltdown and all this Parkinson am with his superior fitness regime will be a distant memory.

I often wonder why we put negative players with the under 23s though rather than say train on your own and you‘re expected to come in for fitness tests to prove you are. It just seems barmy that clubs (they all do it) would put this type of player amongst such a young, easily influenced group of talent.

It’s often thought of as being a negative thing for the younguns to have someone like that chucked into their group but a switched on young player could learn a very important lesson from this kind of thing. I.e. look how far McGeadys fallen cos he thinks he’s Billy Big Bollox. A first hand lesson to all the kids to keep their heads screwed on

Don't think the club will release their side of the story (if there is more to it) till he has been sold. It's not in there interest to paint a bad picture of him while he is still on the books here.

It will still have been a regime with blatantly superior fitness whatever happens

Looks like a good decision to me.

We seem to have a history of playing better when our best player is out of the team. It's not a great leap from watching his attitude on STID to seeing how he could cause problems at a club. At 34, he doesn't need any shite and neither do we.

Another underachieving player that we’ll all forget about in the next couple of years , just another one on a very long list .

In the right formation any League 1 club would benefit from a player like McGeady.

The fact he has gone on loan to a Championship club says as much so there must be more to this.

tbf i was being facestious inresponse to a silly post asking why clubs werent bashing the door down to take him in this league..when a c;lub took him in a higher league!

maddison of peterboruh and now hull may well have been the best player..

Hang on a minute. When everyone was wanting Maddison who kept banging on about “why is no one in for him. He’s not that good blah blah”.

Now he’s moved to Hull he’s “possibly the best player in the league”

They are just training, it’s not like he has a chance to radicalise the little darlings ;)

The only reason people are bleating on about fitness is because if a photo of mcgeady and Maguire in macdonslds (stop the world) and Parkinson bringing in a fitness coach. There is nothing having watched our games that people would’ve picked up without it being highlighted.
This is proven with the ludicrous notion that Maguire doesn’t look fat anymore, he was never fat in first place, it’s people seeing what they want to see.

Look at when di Canio took over from O’Neil and he mentioned fitness, it was absolutely lapped up. Of course it was utter nonsense but people will always believe what they want to believe.

Did you not see Maguire and McNulty, looking like they were in the early to mid stages of pregnancy ?
