McGeady on disagreement with Parkinson

Some of the things that were rumoured at the times always seemed nonsensical to me. McGeady was said to have 'bullied' a younger player - O'Nien was mentioned. If this had been the case then the last thing the club would have done was told him to train with the younger players!

And O'Nien doesn't seem to me the type to be easily bullied either physically (he's very courageous putting his body on the line in matches and shrugs off challenges) nor psychologically (he's been positive even when things haven't gone well for him and seems popular with the other lads). Could be wrong.

And tbf McGeady doesn't come across as aggressive, mean or nasty. Awkward to manage at times - definitely just look at his different reactions to Grayson, Coleman and Ross. And sometimes rather arrogant. He's played the game a the top level, maybe he thinks he's too good for this league - but this is no more than half our fans think about our club.

So a fall-out, difference of opinions, maybe a bit of temper fuelled by frustration always seemed more likely.

if McGeady was as good as everyone was saying before this incident, then why was the door not bashed down with the weight of all his suitors at other clubs come the transfer window ?.......thought he was supposed to be the best player in this league ?

Wages.

He will be 34 in the summer and out of contract. If he wants a decent paying gig after this he needs to downplay his reputation for being ā€œdifficultā€.
He has another 12 months on his contract. Runs out Summer next year

To me, it looks like nobody has a clue other than there was some sort of falling out. You're just making assumptions out of nothing.

Where the fuck have I stated to be ITK?

It's my opinion as to why McGeady got put with the u23's for training and that the squad are much fitter to from when Parkinson first came in.

Wind your neck in.

Ah right - He got a three year contract in 2017 but I missed he got a one year extension in the summer. He will still be looking at a new club in the summer as long as Parkinson is still here.

Pity - nice to think once the machine was running well he could be added back in as a talented player. But there were obviously a style of training/play whatever that McGeady wouldn't accept and Parky rightly drew the line, and/or other attitude issues. Shame he didn't find a move in January - makes you wonder how hard he actually tried - happy to sit and draw a wage never makes you think 'model professional'.

Massive and brave decision by Parkinson at the time dropping a player who was excellent last season and regarded by many fans as our best player

Parkinson has been proved right as we've been a better "Team" without mcgeady. Fair play to Parkinson
Most technically gifted player certainly. Maguire is also surprisingly skillful for a league 1 player that we picked up on a free from a relegated team and gooch has his moments as well.

True enough. My opinion, he doesn’t get paid to see eye to eye with anyone, he gets paid to do his f***ing job.

Very true mate. The manager is doing his job. If he sees a player not getting on board with what he wants to do, then he’s done the right thing. It’s a bit old hat not crawling up a players arse these days, but guess what? It works.

Gripper would knack him.

Absolutely love Richie Wellens.
Without doubt will manage at a higher level but for now just not letting go of the moment and hopefully will get us up this year.
Takes no shit and loan players from higher clubs reckon he is superb and improving their game.

The state of this thread, grown men deciding they know what players are like in training and whether they would be easily bullied.

I'm happy to stick with what we know. McGeady is as talented as any player in League One and had a really good spell in the second half of last season, but was poor in the Championship, often only produces in flashes, and poor at the beginning of this season. He doesn't work hard enough for the team, he leaves his full back exposed, and while he is capable of producing a winner out of nothing, his crossing is surprisingly poor, and he regularly slowed our attacks down through pirhouetting with the ball when we were trying to 'break'.

A new manager has come in, got us noticeably fitter and covering more ground. He has decided McGeady doesn't work in that system, his replacement (Gooch) has added a lot more, and without McGeady we have shot up the league.

I don't care whether McGeady will be sending Parkinson a Christmas card, or about social media rumours. I do know we are better off without McGeady, so hopefully he has played his last game for us.

He’s being polite. He knows he’s been a shithouse but isn’t about to reveal that.
He wants away and doesn’t want us making things difficult.

Parkinsons came in, seen how shite the training and fitness levels were and intensified it. Looks like McGeady couldn't/wouldn't adapt and Parkinson has cut him loose. Its good management as it shows the rest of the squad that he's not f***ing about and doesnt care for reputations.....its also worked very well.
Tbf, it was very obvious to us fans, just how much the players were out of condition.
They'd be out on their feet by half time, and in many cases, the opposition improved drastically in the 2nd half, while our players looked like they were comatose.
Credit to PP and his staff, for gradually turning around a squad who looked disinterested, disjointed and lacking in direction and determination, into a squad of players who now look much fitter, are working much harder, and playing as a team, and are obviously motivated, & enjoying their football again.
There's also a clear sense of togetherness within the squad, as well as having rediscovered their will to win games, that was missing for so long, under Jack Ross, and at the beginning of Parkinsons time, as manager here.

'Looks to me like McGeady wouldn't/couldn't adapt' that'll be an assumption fella, wind your neck in.

That obvious that not one person mentioned it on here.

The bullying thing was started by 1 bloke on Facebook who also reckoned Gooch and Embleton would both be back for the Wycombe game. Gooch was back a month earlier and Embleton isn’t back yet.

Not saying that there wouldn’t be clashes in the dressing room but the word bullying seems very childish in a dressing room of fully grown blokes and trained professional athletes, at the end of the day there always will be issues when a team is massively underperforming. The dressing room also lost 3 captains in Honeyman, Loovens & Cattermole then a senior figure in Oviedo so can imagine there was a massive shift in dynamics. By all accounts the dressing room was great last year.

All sounds very reasonable............let the conspiracy theories and rumours commence
Yeah. There may or may not have been other factors beyond a disagreement, disagreements of course happen all the time in any workplace, but it would certainly seem that McGeady didn’t fit in with what Parkinson wants to do, whether that was because of attitude, style of play or both.

And if that’s the case, it’s difficult to say at this point in time, given the recent upturn in results since McGeady dropped out of the team and left, that Parkinson’s assessment was incorrect. After all, even at the start of Parkinsonā€˜s tenure while McGeady was here, we looked a better team when McGeady wasn’t in it.
