The Echo (Graeme Anderson) came out and said we were shelving the deal because it was taking too long, despite it being common knowledge that everything bar the medical was done and we were just waiting for him to finish his rehabilitation in Greece.

That led to Panathinaikos and his agent getting in touch with Sunderland on Saturday to make sure the deal was still on, which they were told it was and nothing had changed.

The Echo reprinted the exact same story this morning, word for word, which led to the same thing happening again.

In other words, he's signing and the Echo know nowt.

Well we will see, me, personally, I'm not particularly excited by this.

Luckily in the free world we live in I'm allowed to have an opinion.

This is pretty much, barring Mannone, the only transfer I've been underwhelmed with so far.

Happy to be proved wrong, although I'm not to confident tbh.

Why?

Everyone is entitled to opinion mate. I know fuck all about him. But I am putting my faith on pdc di Fanti and angeloni. They know fuck loads more than me.

How much have you seen of him?

All the information I've seen describes him as a very promising young winger with first team experience and champions league experience.

Either you've seen him quite often and don't rate him or you're wumming

Nope, neither, I've watched him a reasonable amount.

Sorry if this is hard to hear for some people though.

You are, but you said that "everything you had heard points to him being nothing more than average".

What is it you have heard that points to this?

Supposed to be over on Wednesday, same as Peruzzi.

Gerrin. I've only seen youtube clips of him but I really want us to sign this lad. Much prefer to have him in the squad than McClean.

Been a regular for Panathinaikos since he was 16, made his Champions League debut 16, already a full Greek international and Juve had a €6m bid turned down in January as Panathinaikos were hoping after he starred for Greece in one of the Youth tournaments (can't remember which, u20 World Cup or u21 European Championship) that he'd go for a lot more.

Luckily for us his bout of rotavirus meant he had to withdraw and that's why they accepted a lesser amount from us.

If anything, he should be one of the players we are most excited about.

I have a friend that is a PAOK supporter, and obviously when we were linked with Mavrias he told me that he isn't a particularly brilliant prospect and that we are overpaying (the rumoured fee).

The lad has played (all competitions including CL) 65 games for panathinaikos, scoring 6 goals and getting 8 assists, while also being capped twice by greece.

He's only 19 aswell.

He doesn't sound very promising though

I know all that mate, won't change my opinion.

As I say, I'd love to be left feeling red faced
