Pietersen said something similar a few years ago. Stating that the minimum wage at county level means average players are getting a decent wage (in comparison to ability) therefore have a protected comfort zone.

Maybe something in it?

It's kind of linked but I think cricketers and cricket are behind the times in terms of professionalism and alcohol.
This. Afaik I think the Durham players still have a beer after each days play to unwind and burger and chips on the way home etc. Mentioned this a few times on here.

Don't see a problem myself. Sensible socialisation is sensible.
Especially for the top players who are pretty much on duty for 12 months of the year, even conscripted soldiers get leave.

Is there a problem footballers having a few pints and burger and chips the night before a game then?

Yep.

But a) football is a different kind of sport than cricket, more athletic, and b) people are talking as if it's more than the night before. . . .

But I don't believe cricketers should get slaughtered the night before either. The Stokes 'night out' happened 3 days before a match..... not that fussed about someone having a night out 3 days before a match and I doubt being confined to quarters for long period of time would help their mindsets.

I’d still argue Cricket is an athletic sport. Its not the night out thing I meant, but a casual 2 pints of lager and Lasange and Chips when they play away from home etc. it’s mental for me (in this day and age) but there we have it.

Infact, for lunch at Lords dont they do whats known by a lot of international players as the most amazing chicken curry

Don’t see the issue myself. Can see your opinion, but I’d sooner they were sensible and went for some team based socialising than being cooped in a hotel all night.

Footballers have food in the dressing rooms after games and are fed before the game.

I am sure Shearer said once he would always have chicken beans and pasta before a game and for some reason pizza sticks in my head as bait in the dressing room after the game for everyone

there is a middle ground mind between being confined to quarters and being out at 2am mortal, especially when you have previous for bother.

We did a tour of the Olympic stadium in Berlin in October and the stadium guide was saying when Liverpool played there a few months before they took a massive cake in, a box of twixes and a box of snickers bars for after the match

Did they not just get the local bin for them to dip into?
