It's an act! Obvious I know, but he actually posts some canny things in the SMB...

Like the fact I acknowledge the fact for all the excitement on here and for all the good things that has happened, we are not likely to see anything happen for some years. So any celebration is a little premature.

Wanny's post is a very good one with lots of truth to it. However, if we aren't allowed to discuss the relative merits of any player either coming into the club or leaving us, then we might as well just can this place right now, pack up and go home. So long as people don't descend to the usual lowbrow bickering ("he's shite - the worst I've ever seen" "if you don't think he's great you know nowt about football") there is absolutely no harm in discussion.

MON is certainly the most qualified manager I've seen at Sunderland in my lifetime. There won't be a single SAFC fan on here who doesn't want him to succeed, either. However, we've seen other managers lauded on here. Remember the name and shame threads for anyone who wasn't initially sold on Steve Bruce? I trust the manager. However, I trust my own eyes as well and I or anyone else should not be discouraged from giving an opinion.

I think the only thing anyone's celebrating right now is how good Wanny's post was. It's a proud day for this board.

I genuinely fail to see what people want.

Look at the bigger picture.

We've been a yo-yo side since the 60s. We've now established ourselves as a mid table premier league side. In reality, the past five or six years have been the best five or six year spell for decades. It's the first time since the late 50s that we've had six successive seasons of top flight football.

We've spent an awful lot of money doing this - managers without a track record have spent - and in some cases wasted - a fortune.

We've wanted a manager with a proven track record.

We've wanted a manager who doesn't have to rely on a chequebook.

We've wanted a manager who can mould a team, not a collection of expensively assembled individuals.

We want players who'll come here, good players, who'll want to stay, rather than seeing us as stepping stone.

We've got all of this in place now. Let O'Neill get on with his job, rather than having a hissy fit when we're linked with a player who's not a big enough name for you.

I've read with interest comments criticising others about having blind faith in O'Neill. When something's proven it's not a question of having faith.

To use an analogy, if you appoint a cleaner to be CEO of a major company you need blind faith. If you appoint a previously successful CEO into the role then you have confidence he'll do a good job, and give him time to sort things out; rather than whining because he hasn't doubled profits after 8 months, or bought different furniture than you would have done.

The fact is, for the first time in a hell of a long time, we have a manager who's proven; a manager who's been there and done it.

I'm happy to back any signing MON makes this season, as I'm confident he'll do it well.

After all, if we're not prepared to fully back MON now, we're never going to fully back any one.

Up there with the best posts I've ever read on here. Well said mate.

you can take the flat pack quick fix option or take your time to construct a thing of beauty.... we've cleaned Ikea of shite down the years, it could be we're just planting the seeds which grow into something beautiful

or it's like a quick shag off a slapper round the back of a club versus a loving relationship with someone you care deeply for - but you wouldn't get that analogy

Nothing wrong with opinions as long as they're quantified.

If the person making the post is a professional football manager with more experience than MoN then I'd listen with great interest to their critiques of any players we're linked with.

If they're just a fan like the rest of us with no Premiership management experience, are ignoring MoN's credentials and just having a whinge because it's not an exotic £30m player we're signing, then as far as I'm concerned that's not even worthy of being classed as an opinion, it's just plain old unfounded negativity.

But if the piece of flat pack furniture is of good quality and is good enough to tide you over till you save up for a piece of hand-made antique quality then what is wrong with it?

If MON can do something really good and positive till the real achieving starts then I will be overjoyed.

I'm here to read the posts that aren't just someone whingeing about who we are and aren't signing, and to stay up-to-date with the latest SAFC news.

Posts like Wanny's a few pages ago. Stirring stuff!
