I like the lad. A bit raw, but lots of energy and he’s the ball winning player we’ve needed for a while.

He’s not a ball player though, he got caught out a few times and I think he holds onto possession too long at times and it costs us the advance when going forward.

I don’t blame him for the goal today, no one showed for him at all in the build up.

Agree with a lot of this. Very good already at certain things, but passing and shooting certainly need some polishing.

Fantastic attitude and ball winning skills though, very strong too. He’s started very well so far.

There’s a difference between being our best player in the last three games (and I’d argue he wasn’t) and being a top player as is being suggested on here.

He’s not.

These are the same people who were telling me Doyle and Cirkin were world beaters a few months ago.

Just hang fire, he’s proven nothing yet.

If you cant see he is a good player, that isnt anyone elses problem is it?

Was he the player AN was referring to when he was talking about players passing centrally when they were told to play wide?
He is a talent but has to have the right players around him unfortunately he hasn't got that playing for us can see him being sold in the summer for a profit

It's a shame there isn't two of him, one tenacious who can sit and another who can get about the park.

Of course he made a mistake today, but he's 20 and has come into a shit situation and took it in his stride, whilst more experienced players have wilted.

Hopefully he learns from it and he doesn't suffer from it because God knows we need him with the other central midfield options we have.

Possibly was, but Doyle was likely one too and both got caught out.

I think I posted elsewhere I wish we had 3 of him :)

Put him in a central two with a 6 foot plus bully who will just sit in front of the back four and Pritchard in the number 10 role and we will look good in the centre of the park

He’s the player with the potential to go furthest in our squad.

I’ll nail my colours to the mast early.

His strength for his size and his ability to win the ball and also pull it out and move with it, at times as if it's stuck to him is a really good trait.

Distribution needs to improve and he needs a bit of polishing, but he's a kid who Fleetwood got from Reading and last year he was on loan at Grimsby IIRC, with this season being his first full one at this level. I really really like him.

It may lack creativity but it would be a fantastic base to play from and you could actually play a high press 😁

He looks a shit load better than the rest of the fuckers in our side currently

I think his bravery, mobility and strength give him a chance to play at the top end of the division above.

I’m not convinced any of the other young players in our squad have that potential.

I think one or two do, but you can't really see it at the moment.

I'm not sure how much he'll improve on the ball and that will likely dictate how far he can step up. However if with experience he develops and a club moulds him into a slightly more defensive/sitting role I could see him being a very efficient midfielder with a chance going higher.

Dickson Etuhu was a dreadful passer of the ball but his strength and mobility made him a fairly valuable midfielder even in the top flight. Matete will have some improving to do to get to that level but I can see him getting there.

Probably the only valuable addition during January.

Too casual in possession for me. His pace and enthusiasm gets him out of shit when he gets caught pissing about. If he can make decisions quicker and start moving the ball faster he will be an immense talent for us.
It's easier to move the ball faster when you have someone to pass to.
Unlike Evans he is looking to pass forward.
