Massive earthquake affecting Turkey and Syria

Nah it's normal to be fascinated by these things. There's a reason that serial killers are a billion dollar industry but I think most people aren't exactly gleeful they are out there killing people.

Difference between being fascinated or interested and not giving a fuck about the people who end up victims to them though.

I remember going through a period of being obsessed with 9/11... Watching every video I could find, reading loads of websites etc.. more about the factual stuff, like the timings of things and the structural side of how and why the buildings collapsed. It's very easy to lose sight that thousands of innocent people died

Heart breaking this mind, makes me feel sick the thought of it.

..Then I remembered that I don’t know them so I don’t give a shit.
How anyone can view life that is beyond me, the f***ing muppet

Mate ainlove reading about the Mongols, Vikings, Samurai etc and they killed millions upon millions.

Bit different when it's the past like as it's just names in a book where as you can emphasize more when you see pics and videos and it's current.

Still though, read enough about burning people alive, chopping Thier lungs out their backs, tying people to a tree and using them as arrow practice etc. Rough times but very interesting.

As much as that's awful, that child is a pure miracle baby. It's first breathes were surviving an Earthquake, having five stories collapsed on her and then being born from a dying or dead mother. Sad as hell but it's also like wow, this child has overcome in its first day what most couldn't imagine in a lifetime.

Used to like his posts but this had made me view him differently
I don’t get what people’s problem is with this. I know nothing about this earthquake. Haven’t seen a single news report. I just said it would be amazing to experience something like this, crucially, if you weren’t in danger, just to witness the power of nature. I’m sure it’s completely horrific if you’re involved, but I was talking about viewing the actual quake as it happened. I have no desire to view the casualties and carnage left behind. It’s not a sadistic thing.
If I was in Jurassic Park and the dinosaurs were eating people, I’d be Dickie Attenborough going “fascinating!” and taking notes, oblivious to everyone else’s terror.

Just to balance your post, when I see stuff like this I can’t help but think how they feel stuck in a 2 feet high gap between tonnes of concrete, how families feel when they see these images knowing their loved ones are in these areas and they have not heard back from them and what must it feel like to hold your lifeless child while all around you is chaos.

I can’t dwell to much on these stories for obvious reasons but at the same time I’m morbidly fascinated by the fault line pictures so I can see where ya coming from.

Do you not feel sad for those involved? It’s called empathy Dave

I don’t really do empathy. Can’t help it, I just have no feelings either way. I might as well be watching and ant’s nest being stomped. That’s not strictly true actually, I have more empathy for animals, than I do humans.

No one can judge ya mate. It’s not your fault. It’s the way people are built that’s all.

One of the lads who helps run one of the excursions I went on when on holiday in Turkey a couple of years ago has been killed…can only have been twenty odd :(

His dad who ran the whole thing also died of covid a couple of years ago. Tragic.

I get it Dave and I think some are just diving on you for the hell of it. I got caught up in Hurricane Irma a few years back. It was a phenomenal display of natures power that I saw first hand. I didn't see anyone die, but I know around 130 people lost their lives as a result. That doesn't change the fact that it was an awesome thing to experience.

 I struggle to relate to that (as would most people I guess)

So if you could click your fingers and have that earthquake not happen, would you?

What about if you could do that but would have to pay £20, or £50? Or pay nothing but you need to stay in on Saturday night?

What aren’t you getting about this? Of course I’d stop it.
I would just like to experience some natural disasters first hand. The fact people were dying wouldn’t really cross my mind. But I’m not wishing them upon anyone.
Saying that, I wouldn’t mind if St James park fell into a sinkhole on a Saturday afternoon.
