In all honesty Nemo I reckon we could be turgid for every one of the remaining games this season and still accidentally pick up the points we need to stay up (7 by the way). As it happens I still expect another upturn in form at some point this season - as you'd expect from an average, inconsistent mid table team.

Nobody can deny that it has been a disappointment. However there is a significant scale of problem to deal with. Looking at things with hindsight (as I was one of the biggest moaners in the immediate aftermath of both windows) it seems clear to me that restrictions are being placed on him in terms of head count in certain key areas of the pitch. It will take time to shift some of the shit he inherited because very few clubs will want them. It's trite but patience is required (once again).

I'd expect that MON himself is disappointed at the limited impact of his big signings. However Johnson remains a very talented lad. It's not like when we spent so much on Anton. Plenty of talented players have had poor first years at clubs - far better ones than Johnson. He'll come good. I accept that I tend to be more optimistic with regards to SAFC than the majority. However, just using bare logic it is difficult to make a case for a managerial change here. We must have continuity and, short of relegation, it should be with MON in my opinion.

Fair points well made, as ever. I hope you're right mate.

I'm fully aware of O'Neill's faults and things that he hasn't got right. I do not feel the need to bleat about every single detail as if it is the end of the world and be overly negative. That's why I stick up for him on here. It gets right on my fuckin' tits when people go overboard. You see the same people time and time again looking for any excuse to criticise him and the club. We're not very good, we have numerous faults - just accept them. There's not much that can be done about it apart from being patient.

He's got a really tough job and I understand it is not a one that could be done over night. I'm willing to give him a bit of time to sort things out and put his stamp on things. I couldn't care less if people are sick of people blaming Bruce. He left a squad of dross and it'll take time to fix it. I'm happy to put up with a disjointed season or two and adding a few players of Fletcher and Johnson's caliber every summer to gradually improve us. Some people aren't and want everything to be rosy straightaway. I can understand the frustrations as we've spent loads over the last 5 or 6 years or so but that has to be pretty much forgotten about. We are where we are and we have the players that we have. To be 3 points off 10th with this lot is not a bad achievement at all.

Again I agree in the main, but when you spend so long doing the polar opposite, don't be surprised if some people feel the same way about your own posts. If it's the same people every time, just accept that these folk will never be happy and move on.

I'm not surprised it gets on your tits, it'll drive you crazy mate.

I don't think that I do the polar opposite. I think he's doing alright, about as well as can be expected but I'm not shouting from the rooftops. I'll back any manager that has ambition and appears to have some kind of plan. I'm not posting that Larsson is mint and it's the right thing to do playing him in midfield etc. I'm simply saying he's slowly trying to build something and looking at the positives whilst pulling people for spouting shit like he's lost the dressing room and he's super negative despite playing 2 up front and two of the least defensive wingers you're ever likely to see.

awful thus far and driving many away

 aye our crowds are down by thousands

Fair enough mate, I just hope that yours/Nelson's/The Cabbage's (etc.) long-term view starts to come to fruition next season.

We'll stay up and then it's a big summer. Shift the shite, bring in some quality and we could potentially be a good side. If we're still umming and ahhing this time next year then we've got a(nother) major problem. O'Neill is trying to build something but you can't expect those who have less faith to be as patient when we're playing like we are.

By the way, I know you're not posting that Larsson's mint. You've made it quite clear what you think about the personnel we have available ;)

Said the same myself about the summer and next year. If it is still like this on February 1st 2014 I'll be up in arms. I'm expecting proper, permanent full backs, a more mobile central defence, some pace and some players more comfortable on the ball. If those aren't addressed then I'll start asking questions about our direction. Until then, O'Neill gets the benefit of doubt and the chance to progress us.
