Marsden grotto

I know it's an old article, but this comment made me laugh.

"Leonora Champion of Grotto Road, Marsden, said: “If that’s people preferences it’s up to them but they don’t have to put it in front of our faces."

I hardly think that having this soiree in an underground cave system constitutes "putting it in front of your face", quite the opposite really.

Ironically she has a name that would be suited for adult entertainment

not all trade is footfall based.

Look at how well some country pubs do. It needs to become the destination, not be on the way to another one. It has the cave, the lift, the view and also a solid car park..

If it had could build a reputation for good, reasonably priced food it would be a gold mine as people would go specifically to the Grotto like they used to.

It plays a massive part. Most will drive there, so a pint tops.

It's not bad inside. Haven't tried the food for a while but place is often busy. Prefer the cave part at the back as a place to sit / eat. Obviously if it had serious money thrown at it, it could be a gem. I think the lift maintenance costs are restrictive for whoever owns the place.

Problem with places like this is that you have to offer something way more than average to make it work. It has to be a destination place where people want to spend the evening there. So many pub/restaurants have awkward locations but don't go the extra mile to attract people in.
