Being reported today that Mark Wood has put himself forward for draft for the T20 Global League in South Africa which starts 4th November and ends 16th December.

The Ashes start 26th November........ has he just ruled himself out for the Ashes?

has to be questionable whether he'd get into the team, with woakes and probably roland jones ahead of him but you'd expect he'd be in the squad at least. it is a bit of a surprise tbh if they're centrally contracted that they can do this. if true you'd expect him to lose his central contract which would bite us rather badly in the arse.

probably not a bad move to focus on one day stuff for the sake of prolonging his career - he has had alot of injury problems.

We won't win the ashes with an attack of Woakes, jimmy and broad

Too similar

i'm not saying i disagree.

woakes will play mind. so you'd need to swallow one of the batsmen by pushing everyone up one to bring in either wood, roland jones or another

Why should he definitely play? If he bowls like he did this test he won't be in the side.

Probably best for the lad if he plays one day stuff. Obviously the longer format of the game sees him getting badly injured. I'd be happy for him to play T20s around the world during the winter and turn out for DCCC in white ball cricket in the summer. Should earn a few quid and maybe enough to keep him at DCCC.

He must have been given permission by the ECB to put himself in the draft which suggests they aren't convinced he'll be ready/picked for the squad. Maybe they want him to keep playing some form of cricket with an eye to getting him involved later in the tour.
