Mark Wood one day specialist?

Pleased to see him get an IPl contract and hopefully he can stay fit. I wonder if it is time for him to just concentrate on the limited overs cricket, it would prolong his career and the way he has bowled in this ODI series, it must be giving a few people food for thought who are close to him.

As good as it is for Mark financially, I'm not sure it's good for the longevity of his career.

Think it's about time we forget about him as a Durham player.
TBF he's not played much for Durham. I was amazed when he got called up for England as he must have played about 2 games for Durham before that.

As soon as England saw that he could bowl at 90 mph that was it, he was in.

There is, even at county level, an obsession with rapid bowling to perhaps the detriment of clever medium pace eg an Ian Botham.

England has more than enough medium pacers not suited to playing outside of this country. As Australia proved in the ashes having bowlers who can bowl 90mph+ is a massive advantage over four bowlers all at 80-85mph when the ball isn’t doing much.

AFAIK when he played at Lords for England in a Test it was the first time he'd played there in a proper match, ie 1st class.

I guess its horses for courses though. The England management should be savvy enough when to bowl the medium pacers swinging it miles and when to simply stick with raw pace. Both surely have their place in a test squad. Reasonable to say? Not reasonable to say?

Doesn't come as any surprise to me at all.

Until the centrally contracted (for ENGLAND) Wood had proven his fitness (for ENGLAND) its an absolute f***ing joke for him to play for anyone else.

Woody deserves to make a few quid. To keep him playing for the next 6 years, I would be quite happy to see him just play white ball stuff. We all know what happens otherwise. A couple of 4 day games and he's knackered again.

So it seems, but I'd rather see that avenue exhausted first.

Why can't he stay fit? What can be done to make him more durable? I'm not prepared to believe there's no way he can't get fit and stay fit......?!

I think a lot of it has to do with his bowling action it puts so much strain on his body it is so explosive, it as if he is throwing the javelin. I know at Durham they have tried to change things such as walking into his run up instead of sprinters start but he can't do it.

Out with another ankle injury such a pity.

Apparently having a scan on his ankle today. Its very worrying if he can't even get through one 50 over or t20 match a week without his ankle playing up.

Should absolutely retire from test and 4 day cricket

Personally England should have seen this coming, he should have been rested from all cricket for a long long time before the Ashes, almost his last hurrah, even if it was a few tests.

Looks like it might be OK. Been involved in warm ups

I’m mixed to be honest. He needed to bowl to even justify a place.

But I take your point
