Mark Knopfler

tells an excellent story in so many of his songs

Trawlermen's song
Sailing to Philadelphia
boom like that
single handed sailor

And of course Why aye man.

Like somebody else said, Telegraph road, tunnel of love etc are never played as most radio stations seem to only have sultans and money for nothing.

Brothers in arms is tremendous from start to finish too

Happy birthday fella

They latched onto it and have kept it for years, Sunderland have changed theirs time and time again: Z-Cars - good but I believe it's a Merseyside folk song, We Will Rock You - cringeworthy because they rarely did, Ready to Go - the best one IMO, Elevation - rhythmes with relegation, Beginning of the Twist -OK.

Going home seems to be associated with the Great North Run for some reason.

We could always claim Alex Kapranos and Emeli Sande back from Scotland.

Sande was born in Sunderland tbf

Done some lovely stuff especially their first album.
Absolutely hate Money Fir Nothing and Walk of Life mind, but their great stuff thankfully is more common

Definitely dad music from the 1980s. It’s the same as Genesis. I’m sure there’s fans out there. Add Roachford, I think thats what he was called, I give you the cool magnum tasched dad of the 1980s.
Two of the best selling acts of all time knocking in at around 300 million album sales…so aye, probably some fans out there
