Also discovered Greggs pasties when he was at Swallwell. He was a big lad when he arrived massive by the time he went back to Aussie.
Be interesting to see what would have happened if someone had taken on the moneyball theory with him (ignore looks and attitude and go on pure stats) and given him a go at international level.
Its true enough. He was at Swalwell during the 2005 Ashes and he failed to turn up for a fitness check with the Australians. When he got back to Australia he was suspended from first class cricket until he got his fitness to some degree sorted. Mind you the following year him and Lehmann destroyed all attacks as South Australia won the Pura Cup and Cosgrove was player of the tournament. Mind you that didnt stop SA kicking him out for fitness and form reasons 2 years later.
Aye came over that with another young Aussie batsmen called Callum Ferguson
who played for Gateshead Fell, who also has played a bit for Australia. Think Swalwell got the better deal via runs wickets and bar takings.

Cal's another top lad and not too sure you're right about bar takings Cal must have piled every penny he had into Buffalo Joes, both as mad as each other. Fell finished 3rd that season Cal got injured and had to go home for treatment halfway through the season he only played a handful of games which was a shame as he'd just scored 150 at Norton and looked quality.
He played in the Northern Premier League a couple of seasons later and smashed the league record.
