As that German comedian pointed out in the build up, the rules state that the winner of a football is the team that scores the greatest number of goals.

We have this obsession with attacking players 'tracking back', coming deep to get the ball and doing lots of other things that don't result in goals.

But if they are tracking back or coming deep, they are less likely to be in position to score a goal.

If a striker touches the ball just once in an entire match, but that touch is a goal, then the chances are that player will have been more effective than most other players on the pitch.

I haven't read the whole thread but skillwise, he's not great. How many shit touches and passes has he had tonight??

But his positional sense and finishing is world class, that goal was sexy.

rubbsih him like, what a first touch
I was in Germany last summer when the wimmens WC was on and every time any lass missed a sitter the crowd at the "fanzone" type places all ower the country with the bigscreen and beer stalls shouted as one "Gomezzzzz".
Twas a toss up to play today between a 34yr old Klose and Gomez in the prime of his life. If Klose was his age thered be no decision to make.

Hes still the worst German International footballer Ive ever seen.

Might explain why they've played in 11 WC or EC Finals (winning 5) since '66 if he's the worst.
