the germans will score more goals without him in the team than with him
So who should they play instead?
They play 4-2-3-1, with Podolski, Muller and Ozil off Gomez.
I don't get your logic, who gives a shit if he is a "bad footballer". He scores goals. Looking back at the careers of Gary Lineker, Van Basten, Gerd Muller, Klinsmann, I don't see much being focused on their "link-up play" or them "being good footballers" because they smashed in goals. Sure he is not the same calibre as any of the above, but he does put them in. Did you not see his goal? It was a great finish. And I am aware he was laughed at when playing for the national team because he was quite poor, but he has acclimatised and is now their lead striker. You don't have to be a good footballer to be a good striker, and he is a good striker.
I see your point that he is only good at a few things on the pitch. But then throw that at a centre-back. I don't really give many shits if my defenders are great at bringing the ball out of defence, or have fantastic touches. All I care about is them being great at defending. Likewise with Gomez, supporting Germany in the Euros, I don't see much wrong with him leading the line. You could play Klose, but he is ageing quite a bit now, and has to be mid-30s at least. And he is hardly a "good footballer".
And would they fuck. Would you change formation? Who would you play instead of him? Please tell me you are aware that out of the entire Germany squad, to my knowledge there are four players who can play as a striker.
Gomez
Klose
Podolski
Muller.
