Man overboard on rig in North sea

Fire at sea and and falling overboard at night was my 2 biggest fears when I was at sea. A really terrifying ordeal for those near and dear to him and the rig staff.

That’s terrible that, poor fella. All the rigs I’ve been on were spot on for safety mind so something doesn’t sound quite right about this. Hopefully further detail will be forthcoming

Agreed.
It was a jack-up under tow.
Pretty low in the water.
I am wondering why the missing person was outside the accommodation.
A lot of the jackups I've been on don't have restrictions on people going outside on tow unless it's in extreme weather.
I've known rig managers to actually plan in project work on the tow.

Oh aye - like wise - but it's all weather dependant and the location of the work, and what safety parameters were in place.

The one that sticks out for me was one who planned to change out all wiring and hydraulics on a drill floor pipe handling system during a tow in November.
Was a young lad in his first job as rig manager trying to be a hero proving how much money he could save. Ended up costing the company a fortune.
As often seems to be the case, after his massive balls up guy was promoted 🤣

A lot of these companies still seem to insist they have a healthy safety culture and job can be stopped at any time but from what I've seen over the last few years that is far from the truth.

Agreed marra.
I have come across some right taties of rig managers in the past.
Push, push ,push and not thinking about the job, safety implications, the personnel and equipment in task.
Piss poor planning produces piss poor performance ;)
