Making the Play Offs only to lose

This,
'its too soon, let's get promoted in 2025 instead'.

ALL you can do is take each match as it comes

It is still possible to make the play offs and it is still possible to get promoted

So that has to be the aim

Whether it happens or not who knows - and the closer we get, the better the base for next season - including attracting ambitious incomers

NO.... It really can't.

and look at our WHOLE history nit just the section that fits your narrative of Poor little old Sunderland!

Having expectations and disliking mediocrity and failure is not setting myself up for failure. If you think we'll never achieve maybe you need a new past time.
Your view of success is very limited, dare I say naive.

For most Sunderland supporters thought it is every bloody season. What's the rush? When we first started playing Championship football after 4 years in the third tier only, what 8-9 months ago, we could barely walk. Now we think we should be running. I bet some of us thought we were barely able to hang with long established clubs like QPR, Stoke City, Coventry City or Millwall back in August after barely being able to fend off challenges from the giants of football like Shrewsbury Town, Bristol Rovers, Fleetwood Town and Exeter City for four years previously. Just being able to compete on a level footing and look at these clubs in the Championship like Cardiff City and Preston North End in the eye was an overachievement. Now we think we are good enough to beat teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion. We have not even begun to lay the groundwork, the foundations, of a strong Championship club. We are still trying to break free from the ways set in as a result of four years in League One.

Just not going down was the very least we should have aimed for. We should be content with having done just that. Worry about challenging for promotion when we have a team and a club good enough to do just that.
Depressing that

So should we throw games to .eet this scenario?

Of course I want us to make the Play Offs but theres a part of me hoping we dont. I tell you why.

I cannot see us winning over 2 legs and then a final with all the injuries and the no striker situation we have.

Therefore in the long term , is it best for the team to - just miss out ; get all the plaudits for incredible season ; not have any play off heartache/baggage ; take a well deserved holiday and come back ready for next season with no play off hangover......... OR is the experience and involvement for the players very useful. Your thoughts???

I cant understand the logic of anyone saying we dont want to get in them as we will lose or we arent ready to be promoted and would get destroyed in the Premier League.

I want us to win every game we play, to fight till the final whistle and not give up, this team does that in spades. Add in some savvy recruitment if we made it up and we stand as much chance as any of the bottom half of staying up.

If we make it, does it really matter if we get the odd spanking off the big teams? Would it really destroy the young lads confidence? Load of bollox, these lads came here to play and improve, they will want to test themselves against the best

They aren't announced until the matches are known.
First leg will be weekend of 13th/14th then second leg Tues/Wednesday after I'd imagine.

The last day fixtures getting pushed back to the Monday probably rules out a Friday 12th/Monday 15th date

Promotion this year would be a massive bonus. Any kind of playoff experience would be good for the bairns.
