Genuine question, if he signs without the assurances he’s seeking would that make him collusive with Ashley? He’s made lots of arguments for what he wants, if he signs without getting what he wants, does that make him a yes man? It’s one thing making demands, it’s another signing on for millions without those demands being agreed to
It’s a tough one really. I can only imagine he is going to sign if any assurances are part of his contract. I think without that he walks. He won’t be out of work for long. He’s certainly not a yes man in comparison to pardew and mclaren. It’s whether he trusts Ashley really, but like I say if he’s asked to sign on blind faith I think he goes.

Maybe Pardew and mclaren aren’t the best examples, Keegan walked when promises weren’t kept. Benítez hasn’t, I’m just playing devils advocate btw. I’m still unsure as to which higher level PL team would appoint him. Leicester probably, if it had been the end of the season when they were looking for a new manager. But after that...

Everton would have been the perfect club for him of it weren't for his past.

I think up to this point Benítez has maybe expected Ashley to change (that alongside a very good contract and a job he seems to enjoy) but that won’t happen any longer. He’s the best manager we could have at the level we are at and I am hoping he stays. Let’s wait and see....

It's rafa's reputation taking a battering each year at Newcastle.
His win % is plummeting too. Whether he can continue working under mike Ashley in the north east whilst he's doesn't get backed by the board will determine if he stays or goes.

I do understand he’s probably the best you can get, he’s decent.

But thats the rub isnt it? Never mind trying to get back to making up numbers in Premier. What about top 5 in this division becoming the norm. Never understand why its better to win more games because standards have dropped so dramatically.

Know where you're coming from. But ultimately regardless of the division fans want to see their team win. You don't leave the match if you've won three nil thinking "shite that, it was only a pub team that we beat".

Put it another way, I'd take the season we lost to Charlton in the play offs every year over the 19 point relegation from the top flight.

But yes, ultimately you want your club to be the best it can be. But if that takes a few seasons away from 'the best league in the world' I can cope.
