The manager said it was a back 4. Are you actually disagreeing with the guy who picked the formation? Just when I thought I’d seen everything on here, someone manages to eclipse the level of stupidity on displayStrange. Were you there There is another thread on here discussing Winchester's performance in back 3, in first half.
I mean, you could see it was a back 3. Why the debate?
Ill find it!I've advocated something like this for a while. My biggest issue is that Pritchard basically plays as a ten and we're just as vulnerable as we saw against Bolton. From a defensive point of view, all you've really done is replaced Winchester with Hume, and Matete with Evans.
I'm not sure it's going to make us any more solid.
In some ways, one of our biggest issues at the moment is trying to accommodate Doyle and Pritchard. We don't have a lot of options to take Doyle out of the firing line, and Pritchard is arguably our best player. However, we can't get the balance right with those in the side (due to preferred position in Pritchard's case, and style of play in Doyle's case).
Not seen it mate!
Ain't you pompous? If you're so clever, and I'm so stupid, tell me what position Winchester started the match. Was he out wide, for example? The manager said it was a back 4. It’s got nothing to do with me or my credentials. Our manager confirmed it was 4 at the back in his post match interview on BBC Newcastle. He is the one that said it was 4 at the back. I’m fairly sure he has the best credentials in the game to know what formation he asked the players to playAin't you pompous? There's a whole debate about it, so obviously not as clear cut as you think. I mean, were you there. Apparently Gary Bennett was going mad about Winchester starting at CB. Now I don't know your credentials, apart from coming across as bit of a know it all, but Gary Bennett was a professional centre back, don't you know
Definitely went to four in second half. I know what I saw, mate. Were you there? It’s got nothing to do with me or my credentials. Ho ho. Who is the idiot. From the echo below. You should not call fans who know their stuff stupid, as it is you who is stupid. It’s got nothing to do with me or my credentials. ThisBack 4 with Winch RB and Cirkin LB.
But to be honest we were all over the shop especially in midfield and only one up front, at home, to the bottom club. Appalling set up.

First half it was most definitely a back three

Yes of course I was. No one’s arguing it wasn’t a 4 second half. Manager said it was also a 4 in the first half. I’m sure he knows more than you doDefinitely went to four in second half. I know what I saw, mate. Were you there?
Right so yet another who knows more than the manager does. Easy to spot the arrogant ones on here todayIt was like, absolutely. Though whether Winchester was under instruction to plug gaps and come out or whether he was just clueless as to where he should be I'm not sure, so I can understand some confusion from others.
It absolutely didn't start as a back four regardless of what the manager said.
Winchester off the ball took up a positon in the back three. Gooch rwb and Cirkin lwb.
On the ball Winchester played almost as a right fullback, though got caught out of position far too much.
2nd half we clearly went to a back 4 and had two wingers.
I think you mean Embleton was hidingDoyle was awful and Evans the worst on the pitch by a distance. Neil had a poor game yet was on the ball twice as much as Evans who spent the game hiding.
You're interesting, but I want to prove my point.Yes of course I was. No one’s arguing it wasn’t a 4 second half. Manager said it was also a 4 in the first half. I’m sure he knows more than you do

I was at Bolton and can tell you we played with a back four. Dodds referenced it in post match interview. Also, you can't have paid much attention if you didn't notice where Winnie started. Bit pissed?
Dodds opted to play with a back three, with the versatile Carl Winchester operating on the right-hand side of that defensive line.
"I don't want to dwell too much on the past but we felt that at Bolton we were a little bit too open and exposed," he explained.
"We felt that the personnel would allow us to get a little bit more security in the back line, and what Winnie [Winchester] would give us is a shape-change without making a sub and you could see that in the second half when we went to a back four.
Apology accepted, wind your neck in.
Agree. Good points. Some of his play in those videos is exactly what we miss at times: someone to drop close to the centre backs when they have the ball, take the ball from them and drive forward. Too often when Doyle tries it the centre becomes compact and he/we lose the ball. Neil I think is meant to do this, but we don't see it enough.
He generally keeps it short and simple when he does get to drive forward in possession which again will suit what we are trying to do.
If we play 4-2-3-1, defensively we need the two central midfielders to have discipline. He seems adept here, too. It's hard to see what his positioning is like, but he reads the game well and makes plenty of interceptions. He does however need to know when to release the ball, similar to what we saw from Neil a couple of times yesterday.
All in all quite promising signs, and I hope he starts on Tuesday.
I agree with some bits and not others. The part I don’t agree with mostly is saying Doncaster had no stand out player. Don’t know the lads name in centre midfield with the long ish hair,,,I thought he ran the show.
