MacBook advice

They do, but IMO even comparing like for like (spec wise) MacOS is just streets ahead.

I was a late starter with Mac really, used Windows forever. Always building kit, upgrading, making better and better.... the issue for me was always Windows. It's getting better (like Android!) but still IMO just not as good as MacOS.

Everyone has views though, so Mac won't suit everyone! (they will miss out tho ;) )

Yet Apple give the option to boot up into Windows...

If this happened, did you take it back to Apple? They would certainly have sorted this for you...!
yeah they did. sent it back and got a full refund.

i always find it interesting that generally those that work in IT prefer windows but those that work in arts based industries prefer mac IME

They should have done a lot more than give a full refund tough if it exploded and destroyed a carpet!

I've worked "In IT" for over 20 years and find that those who prefer windows tend to be the Helpdesk/IT support roles. Devs will prefer Ubuntu or something, Windows if they need Visual Studio and the likes. Everyone else (who knars..) prefer Mac.

All about choice innit. Thats why, for me, a MBP with Parallels running windows as well - gives me best of both!

But why would you need windows if MacOS is so great?
Used to be a number of specialist software with no Mac equivalent and also Mac Excel was rubbish. But now I cannot think of a single piece of software, that I use, that is Windows only and Mac Excel is perfect, even for an advanced user.

i had ubuntu on mine but gotomypc didn't work so put win 10 on as well.

also worth noting that mac users get far more defensive over their choice. ;)

I find many Apple users to be almost religious zealots about their choice.
So can be fun to rattle the cage sometimes

Personally I see the benefits of both options and there is no "right" choice, just your personal preference.

A lot of Mac users are like zombies who will buy anything Apple release. Believe it or not, I don't like all of their kit ha

They can be, but on the flip side, the "non apple" people can also be just as sheep like in their attack of apple people, so makes them just as daft. The irony is often lost

The last bit is true.

This for me. When I see people justifying one choice over the other using excuses such as 'milliseconds' of slow down in browser load speeds or one giving eye strain and the other not (both I've quoted have been given as reasons on here) I just roll my eyes. They're both WIMP interfaces and very much of a muchness, especially for people not doing high end graphic/sound work.

true on both parts.

I'm just about to replace a 2013 Macbook Pro but only because it's taken such a physical beating the keyboard's fucked, and the battery only lasts about an hour and it's not worth spending what it would cost to replace rather than putting it towards a new one. Runs just as well as it did when I first got it, and I spilled coffee all over the keyboard in the first week and thought it would never see 2014.
About the same age as mine, me and our boy got them through business, he spilled a Pot Noodle over it a couple of years ago and that was it! Mine still going strong but really fancy another.

Got to be said, the MacBooks do look slick as fuck compared to laptops in my opinion.

And I’ve googled ‘windows alternatives to MacBook air’ and they’re more than the £900 I’ve paid for the MacBook. Show me a laptop half the price and looks as good and light as the air and I might buy one myself.

Got one for the bairn while at uni few years back remember getting a cracking discount because in full time education sure it was around 20%
May be worth checking out get a brand new one then

But the discussion nearly always starts with someone stating how superior Apple is, at least in my experience.
I've never heard someone start a conversation with, just got a new Dell, it's so much better than Apple you know.

As regards to the OP, Very online catalogue do regular 20% deals on Apple products, got my daughters Macbook Air with the 20% and 12 month interest free credit, you pay it back when you want so I paid a few hundred each month. If you haven't paid it off within the 12 months you accrue interest on the amount still owing. Not one at the moment, but it will be back by September at the latest.

It does happen often mate, same as the Android vs iPhone discussions. Mines better than yours ner ner nee ner ner!

Good point on Very as well, I was surprised that they kept coming up as good deals. I thought all catalogues were way overpriced, but this one isn't. Tend to credit you 20% back int your account and also sell cheap insurance products which wipe the floor with AppleCare. IIRC they offer 20% off your first online credit order as well - so that's a good saving for the first order.

They are also quite often cheaper than apple direct.

A lot of people slag Very off, but if you use them correctly you can actually get stuff cheaper than anywhere else.
Just use your nous and compare prices before buying. Use discounts when they come along. I waited months for a good discount deal to buy my hot tub gazebo.

I was shocked when I saw their prices. Expected double the price with 999892378734% APR. But seems most suff is priced to match other retailers and offers like the 20% off for new customers who open a credit account is ideal for a large purchase! Just pay it off and job done, nice saving

Looking at the base 2020 air and pro, can the price difference be justified ? The macbook pro is a couple of hundred quid dearer, but doesn't seem to be worth it, especially when the base model air has 256gb storage compared to the pro 128gb.

Depends what you need really.

Base model air has more storage and better battery.

Base model pro has quad core cpu rather than dual core and a better screen.
