M’Vila

Yann was a favourite not because he had many great games for us, he didn’t, it was part because he spoke about us with actual respect and part because it was clear as day he had some real quality. We have had loads of decent players, some have done okay for us like Sessengnon, McGeady, some have been a bit of a disaster, Khazri, Januzaj, Lens etc etc...
But occasionally there is a player that stands out a mile in terms of quality. Schwartz, Malbranque, Defoe and M’Vila. All had differing impacts on the team but all had something above what we usually witness for our club.

Really don’t want him to sign for West Ham.

The fact a lot of us are happy about the signing of Dobson when not long ago we were making signings like mvilla shows how far we’ve fallen. I think mvilla might be the last signing we make of his level for a seriously long time.

We really did fuck shit up big time. Enjoyed a lot of last season but became tedious with the lack of any real quality apart from the occasional McGeady show.

We signed some absolute dross over those years 2012/13 onwards but there was the occasional bit of excitement over a player that more often than not failed (M’Vila) but sometimes created something amazing (Defoe). Would love to have that feeling again.

He was world class compared to the shit we have had to watch since
That's the problem mate. Compared to those players he's from a different planet, but to be a truly great player you've got to be as good as or better than proven consistently good players from all over.

This has got me thinking ... If you could bring back a player in each of the 4 positions from the last 15 years and have them in your line up who would you have.. and obviously your bringing them back as they were... not what they are now

For me

GK- David James
DEF- Sylvain Distin
MID- Lassana Diarra
ATT- Jermaine Defoe

Distin was always class (for Everton) against us and pace to burn.

But this is wrong, M'Vila was class in the Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton games in the back end of that season. The main man imo.
He was class against the Mags anarl. These below are an example of the work rate people don't always see if they don't focus on the player the whole game. Here's 3 examples I posted a few years back, 2 showing how much he ran in the Mags away game and the 3rd showing how much it meant at home to Man Utd. Rodwell was a f***ing drain on him and the rest of the team anarl!!

Click the gyfcat links and full screen it as the original gifs are long gone so I can't embed them!

Here are examples that are within the first 5 mins and then the 23rd minute so still early in the game and this is supposedly one of the best halves Rodwell has had according to some. Watch it first to see what Rodwell does and then watch them again to see just how much M'Vila does in comparison. It's not hard to see that Rodwell is a lazy fucker who ambles about for long periods (pointing at other players to do things) and lets others do the dirty work and these aren't the only 2 examples in the Mags game. That's why once in a while in a game he gets involved as he's barely bust a gut at other times so has plenty of energy.

The 2nd gif shows Rodwell probably covers over 100 yards back and then yup the pitch at a jog but doesn't really look to get involved. Whereas M'Vila is all over, getting the ball, making a run etc. The majority of time the opposition face Rodwell, he stands off a few yards and rarely commits to challenging them and certainly doesn't like to tackle as his stats show.

The ball goes to Carrick from Mata yet Rodwell (while pointing) runs out at a strange angle to close down Carrick so is ineffective as he still ends up at Carrick's right instead of in front of him. This allows Carrick to attempt a pass but M'Vila cuts out the pass but then Rodwell decides to point (he does this quite a lot) at Ola to get it even though Ola was still running back and had nee chance of getting it or maybe he was pointing at M'Vila to get it, who knows? Rodwell has a few yards on Carrick yet when he eventually reacts Carrick gets the ball with ease and attempts another pass.
